Abstract

Background: Channa striata contains important compounds in the process of tissue synthesis and important role in wound healing, such as albumin, zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), iron (Fe) and unsaturated fat acids. Purpose : To determine the effect of Channa striata extract to the amount of neutrophil in healing process of traumatic ulcer. Material and Method : The design of this study used randomized post test only control group design. 18 wistar rats were divided into 6 groups, i.e: K-1 (no treatment for 1 day), K-3 (no treatment for 3 days), K+1 (giving hyaluronic acid 0.2% for 1 day), K+3 (giving hyaluronic acis 0.2% for 3 days), P1 (giving Channa striata extract 100% for 1 day), P3 (giving Channa striata extract 100% for 3 days). Results : There was a decrease in the number of neutrophil in the treatment group. The mean and standart deviation of the number of neutrophil in the K-1 group (75,96±3,65), K-3 (50,76±2,04), K+1(72,96±2,97),K+3(45,06±2,83),P1(54,20±1,31),P3(32,50±,85). Conclusion : The using of Channa striata extract 100% for 3 days are the most effective in decreasing the amount of neutrophil in healing process of traumatic ulcer of Rattus Novergicus Strain Wistar.

Abstract

Background: The Sarggasum’s sp. extract contains of several chemical properties such as flavonoid, vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc, and calcium which has benefit as anti-inflammation, so it can be used as an alternative therapy for traumatic ulcer. Purpose: To investigate the effectivity of Sargassum’s sp. extract towards the amount of macrophages in the healing process of traumatic ulcers. Material and Method: 32 wistar rats were divided into 4 groups, K1 the negative control group without treatment, K2 the positive control group with the drugs containing 0.2% hyaluronic acid, and the treatment group K3 Sargassum’s sp. extract concentrations of 50% and K4 Sargassum’s sp. extract concentrations of 75%. Traumatic ulcer were made in the labial mucosa of rats by using heated amalgam stopper. On the fourth and seventh day, rats were sacrified and biopsied on lower labial mucosa. The macrophages were observed using a 1000x magnification light microscope with OptiLab viewer. Result: The statistical test using One Way ANOVA showed significant difference (p<0,05) of macrophage on fourth day group. The LSD test showed a significant difference (p<0,05) in macrophages at K1 (2.83±1.03) compared to K3 (1.17±0.64), K1 compared to K4 (0.58±0.79), K2 (2.58±0.50) compared to K3, and K2 compared to K4 at the fourth day group, whereas the seventh day group showed no significant differences between each groups. Conclusion: The Sargassum’s sp. extract concentrations of 75% is the most effective in decreasing amount of macrophages in the healing process of traumatic ulcers.

Abstract

Background: Smoking is associated with oral fungi which can causes oral candidiasis. Stichopus hermanii contains of antioxidant, antifungal and immunostimulating agent. Purpose: To evaluate the protection effect of Stichopus hermanii ethanol extract to lymphocytes amount in Wistar rat with CS exposure and C.albicans infection. Material and Method: This experiment were used post test-only control groups design. We used 42 male Wistar rats and divided into 7 groups. 1st group (saline 0,1mL, fresh air, CMC-Na 0,2%), 2nd group (saline 0,1mL, CS, CMC-Na 0,2%), 3rd group (C.albicans 0,1mL, fresh air, CMC-Na 0,2%), 4th group (C.albicans 0,1mL, CS, CMC-Na 0,2%), 5th group (saline 0,1mL, CS, Stichopus hermanii extract 0,02mg/kgBW), 6th group (C.albicans 0,1mL, fresh air, Stichopus hermanii extract 0,02mg/kgBW), 7th group (C.albicans 0,1 mL, CS, Stichopus hermanii extract 0,02mg/kgBW). Wistar rats has been infected by C.albicans for a week, exposed by CS for 8 weeks, and application of Stichopus hermanii extract for 8 weeks period. Furthermore, Wistar rat has been euthanized after 8 weeks of experiments. The amount of lymphocytes was counted through peripheral blood smear method using Diff-count under light microscope with 1000 times magnification. Data were collected and analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney test. Result: CS exposure and C.albicans infection group can decreaselymphocytes amount. Suplementation groups with Stichopus hermanii extract can increase lymphocytes amount. Conclusion: Supplementation with Stichopus hermanii extract has protective effect to stimulate lymphocytes proliferation in Wistar rat after CS exposure and C.albicans infection.

Abstract

Background: The oral mucosa soft tissue can develop white, red lesions, vesiculobullous lesions, and ulcerated lesions as a result of systemic disease. The age of patients with systemic diseases affects the profile of oral soft tissue abnormalities. In developed countries, roughly 60% of young people with systemic diseases have at least one oral lesion. Hypertension is one of the systemic diseases that can cause clinical manifestation in oral soft tissue mucosa. Objective: To discover the profile of soft tissue abnormalities of the oral cavity in youth with a normal blood pressure and hypertension in the Karangpilang district. Methods: The type of this research is analytical observational. The method is that blood pressure is measured in each sample, then grouped into 2 (normal blood pressure group and hypertension group). Furthermore, each group was examined with an intra-oral examination that will be carried out to determine the condition of the soft tissue of the oral cavity in each sample. Processing and analyzing the research data using the Spearmen Correlation Test method. Result:  There is a strong positive relationship between the systolic pressure and the number of soft tissue abnormalities in the oral cavity. Conclusion: The oral cavity's soft tissues are frequently obtained during examinations of patients with elevated blood pressure.

Abstract

Background: Ulcers are common and cause pain, difficulty in speaking, eating and swallowing. Avicennia alba role in the process of wound healing and has been shown to accelerate the healing process of gastric ulcer. It contains flavonoid, saponin, NSLcomponents, minerals and vitamin C, which plays a role in wound healing. Purposes: To prove the effect of ethanol extract of Avicennia alba consentration 10%, 20%, 40% against traumatic ulcer. Materials and Methods: The subjects of this research were 30 wistar rats that were randomized into 5 different groups; K0, K1, P1, P2 and P3. (K0) control, (K1) were given hyaluronic acid, (P1) were given extract of Avicennia alba 10%, (P2) were given extract of Avicennia alba 20%, and (P3) were given extract of Avicennia alba 40%. The subject was wounded using amalgam stopper that has been heated before. Subject was given topical application once daily. The ulcer’s diameter was measured at the second day until the day cured using digital caliper. Data were analyzed using One way ANOVA test. Result: The result showed signification of p<0,05, showed that there were difference diameters betweentwo groups. The average diameter differences of traumatic ulcer among rat are: 0,75 mm (K0), 1,51 mm (K1), 1,01 mm (P1), 2,02 mm (P2), and 1,70 mm (P3). The results showed statistically significant value of p>0.05 which there was no difference in effectivenessAvicennia alba extract in the K1 group. Conclusions: Ethanol extract of Avicennia alba 10%, 20%, and 40% have effect in the healing of traumatic ulcer. The effectiveness of those were the same as giving a 0.2% hyaluronic acid. The concentration 20% of Avicennia alba was effective to the healing of traumatic ulcer
