Abstract

This study aims to analyze Loempo Batik motifs as cultural texts that reflect the intersection of Minangkabau tradition, local identity, and global visual culture. The research employs a qualitative case study approach with a triangulation technique combining interviews, visual documentation, and archival analysis. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with artisans, designers, community leaders, and consumers to obtain comprehensive perspectives. The data were then analyzed using semiotic and multimodal discourse analysis supported by Peirce’s sign theory and visual grammar. The results show that the Rumah Gadang motif serves as a cultural anchor symbolizing Minangkabau heritage; guardian figures such as dragons and Garuda illustrate curated hybridity; while exclusive motifs like Malereng represent forms of cultural resistance. The use of color also carries polysemous meanings that link adat, ecological awareness, and Islamic values. The study concludes that Loempo Batik embodies a model of heritage-based design innovation that balances identity preservation with creative economic development.

Abstract

The work entitled "Application of Marawa Colors in Contemporary Fashion" is inspired by the colors of the Marawa, a traditional cultural symbol of the Minangkabau community. The contemporary garments feature asymmetric silhouettes designed with a simple yet elegant appearance. The arrangement of the Marawa colors is visually represented through the composition of fringes made from yarn, creating a distinctive decorative element. The designs incorporate layered contemporary garments combined with Silungkang woven songket fabric. The color palette follows the traditional Marawa colors black, red, and yellow using cotton drill, premium cotton, Ima cotton, and Silungkang songket as the primary materials. The creative process began with collecting references related to the design concept, followed by concept development, field observation, and the formulation of the creative idea. This collection was developed based on the Trend Forecasting 2026/2027 theme "Fringe", which emphasizes garments featuring fringe details. The use of materials such as strands of yarn, cords, tassels, and similar decorative elements characterizes this trend. In this collection, fringe is interpreted through the application of fringes and tassel embellishments combined with dangling beads, and further enriched with sashiko embroidery and bead embroidery techniques

Abstract

The creation of this work was motivated by the artist's interest in white roses which were then realized through corsages. Corsage is a decorative technique in the form of a flower arrangement or decorative ornament used to beautify clothing. White roses were chosen because they have the meaning of purity, holiness. In addition, the development of modern bridal fashion that is increasingly flexible and follows today's needs has become an inspiration in creating elegant, feminine, and timeless designs. The purpose of creating this work is to realize a modern bridal fashion design with the application of a white rose corsage as the main concept. The creation method is carried out through the stages of idea exploration, design design, material selection, and the clothing production process with standard boutique sewing techniques. The work is realized in three levels of clothing, namely ready to wear, ready to wear deluxe, and haute couture. The clothing uses bridal satin material combined with Tille candy sugar, organza, and Palembang songket. The results of the creation of this work show that the application of a white rose corsage can provide an elegant, luxurious, and romantic aesthetic value to modern bridal clothing. Each design has distinct characteristics depending on the level of the garment, ranging from slim dress silhouettes with simple details in ready-to-wear, to more structured details in deluxe ready-to-wear, to the majestic ballgown shapes in haute couture. This work is expected to inspire the development of modern bridal wear designs with decorative touches of white rose corsages.
