Abstract

This research aims to find out the students’ perception toward English camp of Cokroaminoto Palopo University. The research design of this research was descriptive research. The result of this research shows that the implementation of English camp of Cokroaminoto Palopo University gained very positive perceptions from the students. Most of them agreed that the English camp of Cokroaminoto Palopo University could improve their speaking skill.

Abstract

Initial reading skills are basic skills that must be mastered by elementary school students because they are the foundation for acquiring knowledge at the next level of learning. The results of initial observations in grade I of SDN 110 Saele, East Luwu Regency show that students' initial reading ability is still low, characterized by difficulty recognizing letters, pronouncing syllables, and stringing syllables into simple words. This research aims to improve students' initial reading ability through the use of illustrated syllable card media. The research uses the Classroom Action Research (PTK) method with the Kemmis and McTaggart models which is carried out in two cycles, each including the stages of planning, implementation of actions, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 18 students in grade I of SDN 110 Saele. The data collection technique was carried out through observation and initial reading tests, while the data was analyzed descriptively quantitatively. The results of the study show that the use of illustrated syllable card media is able to improve students' initial reading ability as shown by increasing student activity during learning, better learning implementation, and increasing the completeness of learning outcomes to achieve the set success indicators. Thus, the medium of illustrated syllable cards is effectively used as an alternative learning medium to improve the initial reading ability of elementary school grade I students.

Abstract

This study aims to improve Indonesian language learning outcomes by implementing the Literacy Tree model for fourth-grade students at Ponjalae Elementary School 7, Palopo City. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted at Ponjalae Elementary School 7, Palopo City. This classroom action research was conducted in cycles, consisting of Cycle I and Cycle II. The subjects in this study were 22 fourth-grade students. Data collection techniques used included tests, learning implementation observation sheets, and student activity observation sheets. The results of this study indicate that after two cycles of intervention, the average score of the Indonesian language learning outcome test using the Literacy Tree media for fourth-grade students at Elementary School 7 Ponjalae, Palopo City, increased in cycle I, resulting in an average individual score of 70.18 with a classical completion percentage of 63.64%. In cycle II, the average individual score was 88.4 with a classical completion percentage of 86.4%, an increase from cycle I. Therefore, it can be concluded that implementing the Literacy Tree media can improve the Indonesian language learning outcomes of fourth-grade students at Elementary School 7 Ponjalae, Palopo City.
