Abstract

Community literacy is an essential foundation for building civilization and competitive human resource quality in the digital era. The low reading interest among communities, especially in areas with limited access to library facilities, poses a serious challenge to national literacy development. Rimba Bulan Reading Space emerges as a community-based alternative solution to enhance community literacy culture. This article aims to analyze the implementation of community literacy through Rimba Bulan Reading Space using a descriptive approach. The methods employed include direct observation of literacy activities, interviews with managers and participants, and documentation studies of programs. Research findings indicate that Rimba Bulan Reading Space successfully increased children's and adolescents' reading interest through various programs such as shared reading, mobile reading corners, creative writing training, and book discussions. Supporting factors for success include active volunteer participation, local community support, and collaboration with various parties. Constraints faced include limited operational funding, insufficient new book collections, and program continuity. This research recommends strengthening managerial capacity, diversifying funding sources, and establishing strategic partnerships with government and private sectors for the sustainability of community literacy programs.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of disobedience and retaliation in two archipelago folklore, Simaranda (Batak Toba) and Si Lancang (Riau Malay), through a qualitative-descriptive-comparative approach. The analysis focuses on forms of disobedience, counter-responses, narrative structures, and underlying cultural values using Vladimir Propp's structuralism theory and Lévi-Strauss anthropology. The results of the study show that Simaranda describes disobedience as a rejection of family ties in the patrilineal social system, while Si Lancang displays disobedience as arrogance due to prosperity and denial of origin. The retribution in Simaranda is manifested through a curse that turns the perpetrator into stone, while in Si Lancang through a natural disaster that sinks the ship. Both stories reflect moral justice and the balance of the cosmos according to the worldview of the society. Thus, folklore not only serves as a means of moral education, but also as a social mechanism to maintain family and cultural values in the midst of changing times.

Abstract

The reduction of education to a technocratic process that is only oriented towards cognitive achievement has ignored basic human values. This research aims to analyze the essence of education as a humanization process by integrating philosophical and scientific perspectives, as well as identifying the main dimensions in the development of the whole human being. The method used was a systematic literature review of 28 articles from Scopus, Web of Science, and the Garuda Portal for the 2014–2024 period with the keywords "humanization in education", "philosophy of education", and "holistic development". The thematic analysis yielded three main findings. First, the humanization of education includes five dimensions of development: cognitive, affective, moral, social, and spiritual, that must be integrated into learning practices. Second, the philosophy of education serves as a normative foundation and a tool of criticism that directs educational goals. Third, education provides an empirical framework through theoretical, practical, and normative orientations. These findings confirm that meaningful education requires a dialogue between philosophical reflection and scientific validation in its implementation. This research contributes to educational theory by providing an integrated conceptual framework that bridges the gap between philosophical ideals and empirical practice, offering practical guidance for educators and policymakers to develop more humanistic and holistic educational systems that address the ethical and social challenges of contemporary society.

Abstract

This study analyzes the application of Geoffrey Leech’s politeness maxims in Ustadz Felix Siauw’s podcast lectures on the YouTube platform. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this research examines how a contemporary Islamic preacher applies the principles of linguistic politeness in delivering da'wah messages to diverse audiences in the digital era. Leech’s politeness maxim theory, consisting of six main maxims—tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim—is used as an analytical framework to dissect Ustadz Felix Siauw’s communication strategies. The research findings indicate that Ustadz Felix Siauw effectively integrates all six politeness maxims in his communication style, with particular emphasis on the tact maxim and agreement maxim to build rapport with heterogeneous audiences. His logical, communicative, and polite da'wah approach reflects a deep understanding of linguistic pragmatics in the context of modern Islamic preaching. This study concludes that the application of Leech’s politeness maxims not only enhances the effectiveness of da'wah message delivery but also creates an inclusive dialogue space that respects the diverse perspectives of the audience. The implications of this research highlight the importance of pragmatic competence in digital da'wah communication to reach critical and dynamic young Muslim generations.
