Abstract

Kendari City as a center for industrial, trade, and service activities as well as a provider of urban facilities has become an attraction for residents to move and live, thus having an impact on increasing land transformation. This research aims to assess the capability of remote sensing satellite imagery, especially Landsat 8 Oli Imagery for multi-temporal monitoring of Kendari city land transformation in 2010-2021. The research method used is survey research with the Urban Index (UI). The research results show that the multi-temporal land transformation of the city of Kendari in 2010-2021 using a spectral approach on Citra Landsat shows that the city of Kendari is experiencing an increase in the amount of undeveloped land and conversely, there is a decrease in the amount of undeveloped land. The total area of built-up land in 2010 and 2021 is 6,670 ha and 11,182 ha, respectively. The interpretation results have an accuracy of 85% with a kappa value of 69% (strong). Thus, the results of the interpretation have a strong relationship with the results of checking in the field

Abstract

Kendari City is the capital of Southeast Sulawesi province which is the center of industrial, trade, and service activities for its people. This is an attraction for immigrants from outside the area to come to live or look for work. The development of cities invites migration flows from villages to cities, population mobility and the attraction of city income result in village residents coming to cities which is caused by poverty, giving rise to homeless people and beggars in urban areas. This research aims to analyze the spatial distribution of homeless and beggars in the Kendari Bay area and create a route map for homeless and beggars in the Kendari Bay area. The research method used is survey research with a spatial approach using a geographic information system application. Based on the research results, it was found that the distribution of homeless and beggar locations was spread across several points, namely tourist areas, places of worship, and elite residential areas. Meanwhile, the movement route for homeless beggars in the city of Kendari is in the Citra Land road area towards the Al-Alam mosque, the Kendari Beach Route, the Kendari Bay Platform, and the Bahteramas Bridge.

Abstract

The construction of the Gorontalo Outer Ring Road (GORR) in hilly terrain carries a high potential for disaster risk. Therefore, a study of the physical land characteristics is crucial to support disaster risk mitigation along the route. This study aims to analyze the landform and disaster potential in the GORR area. The research was conducted through spatial analysis supported by field surveys and historical landslide information from local communities. Geomorphological, analysis indicates that the GORR area lies within denudational hills. Based on the Regional Geological Map of the Tilamuta Sheet, the exposed lithology is dominated by clastic limestone units (TQl), Bilungala volcanic rocks (Tmv), Bone diorite (Tmb), and lake deposits (Qpl). Land cover includes the GORR road, gardens, fields, and shrubs, with maize and coconut plantations that can accelerate surface erosion due to their limited capacity to retain water.Steep slopes further increase the risk of landslides, which pose a danger to road users and nearby communities. Therefore, disaster mitigation strategies are needed, including the delineation of landslide-prone zones and the installation of warning signs at critical points to enhance public awareness, especially during the rainy season. These efforts support sustainable development and disaster risk reduction in the GORR region.

Abstract

The critical thinking ability of students at SMAN 12 Kendari is still relatively low because the learning process tends to be teacher-centered. This study aims to: 1) determine student activities in applying critical thinking skills during learning the Introduction to Geography material, and 2) determine teacher activities after applying the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on the same material. This study is a classroom action research. The results of the study indicate that: 1) the implementation of learning using PBL in cycle I obtained an average activity score of 2.7 by teachers and 2.5 by students, while in cycle II it increased to 3.5 for teachers and 3.6 for students; 2) students' critical thinking ability based on the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria of 75 also increased, where the percentage of completion in cycle I reached 70%, and increased in cycle II to 93.33%. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the PBL learning model is effective in improving students' critical thinking ability in the Introduction to Geography material at SMAN 12 Kendari. This PBL model can be used as an alternative learning strategy that encourages students to be more active and analytical, while also helping teachers create a more student-centered learning process.
