LED has six dimensions of analysis; targeting group, location factors, policy focus and synergy, sustainability, governance and planning. Abstract

Ecological politics rely solely on economic interest. Development and the environment have a complicated correlation. The industrial plantation forest policy aims to ensure that the economic benefit goes hand in hand with the sustainability demand. Ironically, this policy triggers a conflict between local communities and corporations as the holder of forest concession rights. The concession is practically established due to merely economic interest aligned with the extractive industry of tobacco in Lombok. The plantation is aimed as the supporting source for the tobacco industry since it requires specific woods to roast the tobacco. The study refers to utilizes instrumental state theory and deep ecology perspective to identify how the policy was made for the capital and tobacco capital benefits, while the sustainability objective is left behind. The study shows not only how the concession sparked ironic economic development, but also how the liberal environmentalism approach in industrial forest plantation policy has failed to gain its objective. The economic potential of tobacco in Lombok is the main determinant in industrial forest plantation policy that changes community forests into private forests. In the end, the policy was strategically implemented to sustain production and strengthen corporation monopoly over forests.

Abstract

The declining export value of pottery in West Nusa Tenggara Province became a trend since 2006-2007. There are atleast two basic reasons of this significant decreasing, first the lessening numbers of export caused by global economic crisis, second the lack of competitiveness of the sector. The article questions about the structure of governance of the industry. Focusing on the issue will bring explanation what caused the industry has a quite low competitiveness in global market. The research itself is a qualitative research with global value chain approach. The study shows that there are two types of governance structure in the industry. The buyer-driven type of governance is built between local producer and global buyer in international trade context, while a more equal structure established in local market between local producer dan local buyer, or called as producer-driven with arms-length character. Meanwhile, the lack of competitiveness is also caused by the upgrading capacity, which tends to be a more static upgrading. The lack of upgrading capacity happened due to rents drain, where the rents that once existed in the community are getting dim due to the role of the government in building synergy and rents is considered small.

Abstract

Abstract Women’s participation in economic field and politic is often viewed in a dichotomous manner, where the economy is referred as "low politics." Women’s participation in economic organization is also seen as non-strategiv activism, which interpreted as activities that are distant or excluded from electoral politics and has less influence on the decision-making process. This research aims to challenge the argument and suggests that women's roles in the economy are indeed interconnected with the political sector. The study argues that women use their institutional capital as members of IWAPI to build relationships and political networks, where the appropriation of interests which means securing access to specific resources is the main goal. This research utilizes the Strategic Group theory from Evans Dieter-Evers and finds that women affiliated with IWAPI adopt personal and corporate appropriation modes in pursuing their interests. Personal appropriation is closely related to strengthening political networks through political parties to drive institutional change, while corporate appropriation is carried out by IWAPI members through expanding business networks and forming resource alliances. Furthermore, women can be categorized as a strategic group with business types and often employ cooperative strategies with other strategic groups. IWAPI is ultimately referred to as an organization formed by strategic groups of women for the appropriation of specific interests. Keywords: Women, strategic groups, agency, appropriation of interests
