Abstract

Artikel ini membahas kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan sebagai bentuk kepedulian Fakultas Sastra dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Teknokrat Indonesia khususnya Program Studi Sastra Inggris terhadap penerapan ilmu yang dimiliki untuk bisa berdampak kepada masyarakat. Dalam penerapannya, bukan hanya para dosen yang melaksanakan pengabdian ini. Para mahasiswa dari mata kuliah Interactional Conversation juga adalah ujung tombak dari program pengajaran yang dilaksanakan. Para dosen bertugas untuk berhubungan dengan mitra, mengawasi mahasiswa dalam mempersiapkan materi dan melaksanakan pengajaran, serta memberikan arahan tentang hal-hal yang perlu diperhatikan. Kegiatan ini dinamai Pengajaran Bahasa Inggris We Care We Share. Sebagaimana tersirat dari namanya, diharapkan agar melalui kegiatan ini mahasiswa semakin peduli dengan masyarakat sekitar dan mewujukan rasa kepedulian tersebut dengan cara berbagi ilmu yang mereka miliki.

Abstract

The community service activity aims to build the trainees' self-confidence in the use of basic English in everyday life and enhance the participants' learning enthusiasm during the English training. This service activity has been carried out at the Kasih Nusantara Orphanage for 4 (four) months. The number of training participants consisted of 30 people with educational backgrounds starting from elementary school, junior high school, and high school. In the implementation process, the English training provided is in the form of lectures, questions and answers, discussions, and simulations/practices. The results achieved are that the trainees have increased their ability and confidence in using English. In addition, the response given was positive to the materials provided by the teaching team. Therefore, this community service activity might foster a sense of concern for partners in the application of their knowledge and knowledge so that they have a positive impact on the target partners of this activity.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the existence of racial profiling related to the main character Justyce McAllister in Nic Stone’s novel Dear Martin. The cases related to race and racism in the novel urged the researchers to conduct research about racial issues, especially racial profiling. Racial profiling is committed and used as the basis for suspicion in directing discretionary law enforcement actions such as stopping, checking, questioning or searching a person based on their race. It is defined as the behavior of the authorities to initiate traffic stops by using race or skin color as the indicator. The novel Dear Martin is chosen considering the plot story of the novel that tells a story about an African-American teenager named Justyce McAllister. The story is about McAllister problem with white people. Thus, the researchers wanted to analyze the existence of racial profiling in the novel. To conduct the analysis, descriptive qualitative method was employed. This method was used as this research was considered as a textual analysis. Sociological criticism approach and racial profiling theories were also used in this research to help the researchers conducting the analysis. After analyzing the data gathered, the researchers found out that the novel Dear Martin contains the aspects of racial profiling as seen through what happened to the main character Justyce McAllister.Keywords: Dear Martin, Nic Stone, racism, racial profiling

Abstract

Digital marketing is a product promotion activity in the form of goods or services using social networks so as to contribute to marketing activities. However, Pandemi Covid-19 which has passed is a starting point for changes in education in Indonesia and even the world that causes schools and teachers in Indonesia must switch to the learning and teaching system digitally. The situation of Post Pandemic Covid-19 has made the activity carried out digitally as a thing that is definitely used today. Therefore, the community service (PKM) of the University of Indonesia is a facilitator and an event for schools, especially teachers to be able to learn digital marketing in depth not only in technical aspects but also in terms of its use in the process of teaching and learning activities. Community service was carried out at SMKN 1 Labuhan Maringgai, Lampung Province. This is done with the aim of opening the teacher's insight in carrying out a digital marketing process. Not only that, through this activity also gave a presentation on how to build a business in the digital era by looking at the potential that exists in Labuhan Maringgai. Thus, the teacher is expected to be able to contribute not only to themselves and their families, but for students and the community.

Abstract

Generasi Z adalah generasi yang berasal dari orang tua yang merupakan Gen millenial, mereka membawa beberapa sifat bawaan Millenial antara lain setia, tegas, bertanggung jawab dan perduli. Namun, GEN Z berbeda dikarenakan lebih memiliki jiwa kewirausahaan yang tinggi dan cenderung untuk berjuang keras demi memperoleh identitas dirinya dan mendapatkan pengakuan dari orang lain. Gen Z juga berkontribusi 85% dari total transaksi. Lebih lanjut, pemerintah saat ini tengah fokus dalam menumbuhkan jiwa kewirausahaan bagi Generasi Z yang diharapkan menjadi bonus demografi tenaga kerja dalam beberapa tahun kedepan, sebaiknya sebagaimana dalam penelitian Mahanandia yang menyarankan bahwa bakat GEN Z perlu dikembangkan. Oleh karena itu sangat tepat untuk membekali siswa/i SMK yang faktanya merupakan GEN Z dengan motivasi pengembangan potensi diri untuk menjalankan bisnis dengan baik.  Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan tujuan membuka wawasan siswa/i untuk mengenali potensi diri dan membangun bisnis yang berawal dari hobi sendiri. Tidak hanya itu saja, melalui kegiatan ini siswa juga akan  diajarkan bagaimana cara berwirausaha dengan baik dan  demikian diharapkan siswa memiliki daya saing yang baik serta mampu berkontribusi secara meluas

Abstract

In this article, the writers discuss one of the psychological issues called as schizophrenia. This study aims to describe schizophrenia on Pearl as the main character in Love for a Deaf Rebel novel through indirect characterization and to see whether the main character suffered from paranoid schizophrenia as it claimed in the novel or suffered from the other types of schizophrenia instead. To answer the research questions, the writers used psychological approach because this study discussed about psychological aspects of character called schizophrenia which is faced by the main character in the novel. The theories that the writers applied are schizophrenic theory and character and characterization. Moreover, this study applied qualitative descriptive method because this study intends to investigate an issue in form of words. Overall, the writers conclude that Pearl as the main character exhibits the symptoms and characteristics of more than one type of schizophrenia. Three out of five types of schizophrenia were found in Pearl through indirect characterization. Keywords: Indirect characterization, psychological approach, schizophrenia

Abstract

This article helps High School students become ready for the abilities they’ll need in the future by highlighting the value of public speaking. In order for Senior High School students to succeed in both their personal and professional lives, the essay highlights the significance of public speaking. To that end, this article suggests a community service program that offers training in public speaking, lectures on the subject, and resources for boosting self-confidence. Qualitative methodologies and multiple Google Form questionnaires were used to evaluate the efficacy of this program. Feedback received from SMA YP UNILA students showed enthusiasm and interest in developing their public speaking skills. The results showed a positive impact in showing self-confidence through the ability to communicate well. Through this article, it can be concluded that by developing public speaking skills among high school students, it can prepare them to face the future and become individuals who are better prepared to face the advancement of the era.

Abstract

The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is a means of professional development for students at Vocational High Schools (SMK). SMK students are required to have skills in the field of communication in international languages so that they are able to guarantee the quality of their own future. The purpose of this Community Service activity (PKM) is to provide an understanding of the TOEIC test for students of SMKN 1 Labuhan Maringgai, East Lampung. This PKM activity uses several methods such as observation, questionnaires, interviews and documents. The results of this PKM show that the TOEIC skills of students at SMKN 1 Labuhan Maringgai have increased after participating in technology-based PKM activities.

Abstract

The integration of speech and news reading exercises within the realm of public speaking in SMAN 5 Metro commences by administering a pre-test to assess the initial speaking proficiency of the participants. The findings suggest that the proficiency level is moderate, implying that there is potential for improvement. The following activities, which encompass impromptu presentations, news reading, and vocabulary assessments, are designed to improve articulation skills and the practical use of vocabulary. The presence of group dynamics facilitates the development of collaborative efforts and effective communication among individuals. The post-test assesses the effectiveness of the intervention by demonstrating notable improvements in speaking proficiency. This approach elucidates the efficacy of structured exercises in enhancing communication abilities and instilling self-assurance in public speaking
