Abstract

Social support from parents plays an important role in the affective development and psychological condition of students. Parental social support plays a crucial role in the affective development and psychological well-being of students. This study aims to examine the extent to which parental social support influences emotional regulation and psychological well-being among junior high school students in Wonoayu District, Sidoarjo. Employing a quantitative correlational method, the research involved 104 students from private junior high schools in the district, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using social support, emotional regulation, and psychological well-being instruments and then analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed that parental social support significantly and positively influenced students' emotional regulation and psychological well-being. A novel discovery in this study is the correlation between parents' educational levels and the quality of support provided to their children. This research underscores the importance of enhancing parental involvement to foster better emotional and psychological outcomes for adolescents.

Abstract

This study investigates the development of the Wander Expression Booklet as an innovative media guide to support school counselors in delivering classroom guidance services aimed at enhancing students’ social-emotional skills. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the 4D Development Model, which consists of the Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages (Thiagarajan, Semmel, & Semmel, 1974). The research subjects were school counselors at a secondary school in Surabaya, Indonesia. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and validation questionnaires administered to content experts, media experts, and prospective users. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative descriptive techniques with score conversion into feasibility categories. The validation results demonstrated that the Wander Expression Booklet achieved feasibility scores of 94% from content experts, 94% from media experts, and 90% from prospective users, all categorized as highly feasible. Product revisions were implemented based on expert feedback, including refinement of the title, strengthening of social-emotional content, and the addition of visualized media implementation procedures. A limited trial conducted at SMP Negeri 28 Surabaya indicated increased student engagement, enthusiasm, and understanding in recognizing and regulating emotions appropriately. Based on these findings, the Wander Expression Booklet is considered valid, practical, and effective as a media guide for classroom guidance services in secondary schools.

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen the mental resilience and emotional well-being of researchers and academics at a higher education institution in Brunei Darussalam through a Self-Resilience Enhancement workshop based on self-existential discovery techniques using a self-existential discovery (tadabbur alam). The Community Service Team from State University of Surabaya (UNESA) organized the program in response to the high levels of stress, burnout, and workload pressure experienced by the academic community. The tadabbur alam was chosen because it can combine self-introspection, strengthening self-identity, and spiritual connection through direct observation of natural phenomena. The program resulted in an increase of self-awareness, clarity of thought, gratitude, and inner peace, and gained adaptive strategies to deal with life's stressors of participants. Participants also understood resilience not only as the ability to bounce back from setbacks, but also as an internal strength derived from self-understanding and a spiritual connection with God. This activity is an example of cross-country collaboration between UNESA and a higher education institution in Brunei Darussalam through Guidance and Counseling Study Program and Counselling and Diverse Learning Needs Unit that is relevant to be developed in a program to improve academic mental health based on Islamic values and local culture.
