Abstract

Waste management remains a strategic issue in Indonesia along with the increasing population, urbanization, and changes in consumption patterns that contribute to the rise in annual waste generation. This study aims to analyze waste generation trends and the distribution of its sources in districts and cities in Indonesia during the period 2020–2024. The research design uses a quantitative descriptive approach with secondary data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN). The analysis is conducted through tabulation and graphical visualization to illustrate the comparison of trends and the contribution of waste sources. The research results show that the waste generation in urban areas is higher than in rural areas, with a total of 9.03 million tons in the city and 7.38 million tons in the district in 2020, increasing to 9.25 million tons in the city and 7.57 million tons in the district by 2024. The source of waste is dominated by households, with contributions increasing from 58.0% to 73.9% in the district, and from 37.8% to 51.1% in the city. Contributions from other sources such as markets, offices, public facilities, and areas are relatively small, while the percentage of areas that do not report data is still quite high, especially in the city. These results indicate that households are the main source of waste, so community-based management, increased public awareness, and improvements in the data reporting system are key to achieving sustainable waste management. Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease transmitted through the bites of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, with a high case burden in Indonesia, including in South Labuhanbatu Regency. One of the efforts to control DHF is through Mosquito Nest Eradication (PSN) using the 3M Plus method, which aims to increase the Mosquito-Free Rate (ABJ) as an indicator of vector control success. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of PSN 3M Plus education on increasing ABJ in the working area of Beringin Jaya Health Center. The method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 100 households selected according to inclusion criteria, with an initial measurement of the presence of mosquito larvae (pretest), followed by an intervention in the form of 3M Plus PSN education through outreach, mutual cooperation, and cadre assistance, as well as a re-measurement (posttest). The research results showed that before the intervention, mosquito larvae were found in 48% of homes, while 52% were free of larvae. After the intervention, the ABJ increased significantly to 100% with a p-value of 0.0001. These findings demonstrate that 3M Plus PSN education is effective in increasing community awareness and behavior towards dengue prevention, thus it can be used as a sustainable promotional and preventive strategy in vector control.

Abstract

Waste management in Indonesia faces significant challenges, especially in providing accurate and up-to-date waste generation data at the district/city level. The National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN), managed by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), serves as the main reporting platform. However, compliance with waste generation reporting was low and inconsistent before the issuance of Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2022. This study aims to analyze the differences in compliance levels of waste generation reporting by districts/cities before and after the enactment of Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2022. A quantitative comparative approach was used, involving all 511 districts/cities in Indonesia as the study population. Secondary data on waste reporting from SIPSN for the periods 2020–2021 (before regulation) and 2023–2024 (after regulation) were analyzed. Compliance was categorized into three groups and analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Significant differences in compliance levels were found before and after the regulation (p = 0.0001). After regulation, the number of compliant districts/cities increased substantially, while non-reporting decreased markedly. Significant differences in compliance levels were found before and after the regulation (p = 0.0001). After regulation, the number of compliant districts/cities increased substantially, while non-reporting decreased markedly.
