Abstract

Loloan Malay is an endangered indigenous language which is also the identity of a minority Muslim community in Jembrana, West Bali. In the midst of the strong Hindu influence in Bali, the Loloan people try to maintain their different linguistic and cultural heritage through oral traditions such as Burdah and Ngelenggang—ritual performances presenting religious verse recitations accompanied by percussion performed during a seven-month pregnancy. This study aimed to explore how Loloan Malay language as their identity is maintained through Burdah and Ngelenggang rituals. Data were collected through interviews and observations, focusing on community leaders, ritual performers, and youths. The findings revealed that conducting the rituals maintains the language through the cultural materials and communication. Furthermore, the research also unpacks the language of having inconsistency in orthography, which affects not only the written communication but also the education. This study implies that sustainable religious practices can be markers of how well languages are maintained.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji pemerolehan bahasa pada anak kembar berusia lima tahun dengan kondisi perkembangan saraf yang berbeda, yaitu Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) dan Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan serta membandingkan pemerolehan bahasa kedua subjek penelitian dari aspek fonologi, morfologi, sintaksis, dan semantik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Subjek penelitian adalah dua anak laki-laki kembar yang salah satunya pengidap ADD dan yang lainnya adalah pengidap ASD. Data dikumpulkan melalui metode observasi partisipatoris dan wawancara dengan teknik transkripsi dan catat. Analisis data dilakukan dengan pendekatan kualitatif dan disajikan secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa anak dengan ADD memiliki kompetensi linguistik yang lebih berkembang dibandingkan anak dengan ASD. Anak dengan ADD mampu memperoleh bahasa pada tataran fonologi, sintaksis, dan semantik, meskipun masih ditemukan inkonsistensi dalam produksi bunyi dan struktur kalimat. Sebaliknya, anak dengan ASD belum menunjukkan pemerolehan bahasa pada tataran kata dan makna serta masih berada pada tahap babbling. Perbedaan pemerolehan bahasa yang signifikan antara kedua subjek penelitian, meskipun tumbuh dalam lingkungan dan stimulus kebahasaan yang relatif sama, menunjukkan bahwa pemerolehan bahasa sangat dipengaruhi oleh kesiapan kognitif dan kondisi neurologis anak. Studi ini berkontribusi secara empiris dengan menunjukkan bahwa kondisi neurodivergen tertentu memengaruhi progres pemerolehan bahasa anak-anak meskipun menerima kesamaan perlakuan linguistik.
