Abstract

This study was motivated by the finding that the learning process is still dominated by lecture-based methods and the limited use of teaching aids. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using interactive teaching aids in increasing student engagement and interest in the learning process at the elementary school level. Data collection techniques included observation, documentation, and recording of student activities during the learning process. The results of the study indicate that the learning media used—specifically, a model of the human respiratory system—is effective in positively impacting student engagement and interest in learning.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a Digital Science Magazine in the Context of Kebon Rojo Blitar that is valid, practical, and effective to improve the science process skills and environmental awareness of elementary school students. The research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model which includes the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The research subjects consisted of 65 elementary school grade V students, with a small group trial involving 7 students and a large group trial involving 58 students. The research instruments include expert validation sheets, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, science process skill tests, and environmental awareness questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Aiken's V index, percentage analysis, Paired Sample t-test, and Normalized Gain (N-Gain). The results of the study showed that the media developed met the criteria of being very valid with the average validity of material experts of 0.91, media experts of 0.90, and instrument experts of 0.89. The practicality of the media obtained a percentage of 98.08% in the small group trial and 97.08% in the large group trial with the very practical category. The results of the effectiveness test showed an increase in students' science process skills with an N-Gain value of 0.74 (high category) and an increase in environmental awareness which was in the very good category. Thus, the Digital Science Magazine in the Context of Kebon Rojo Blitar was declared worthy of being used as an IPAS learning medium to improve science process skills and environmental awareness of elementary school students.
