Abstract

This community service activity was carried out with the aim of increasing the knowledge of postpartum mothers regarding breastfeeding techniques through educational media in the form of videos. The low understanding of postpartum mothers regarding the correct breastfeeding techniques can have an impact on the effectiveness of breastfeeding and the overall health of the baby. This activity was carried out at the Mgr. Gabriel Manek, SVD., Atambua Regional Hospital, Belu, involving postpartum mothers as participants. This project included identifying educational needs, making educational videos that were appropriate to local conditions and culture, and evaluating participants' knowledge before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant increase in the level of knowledge of postpartum mothers after receiving education through videos. This program has been proven to have a positive impact on increasing postpartum mothers' understanding of the correct breastfeeding techniques, and can be used as a model for educational interventions based on visual media in other health facilities. This article describes the methodological approach, results, and practical benefits of this community service activity.

Abstract

Introduction: Pain following cesarean section (SC) is a major postoperative issue that can disrupt maternal recovery and breastfeeding. Pharmacological pain control alone is often insufficient, hence complementary approaches like hypnotherapy are essential. Objective: The aim of this activity is to enhance the competence of midwives and empower postpartum mothers in managing pain after sectio caesarea surgery through the application of hypnotherapy as a non-pharmacological intervention based on education and hands-on practice at Mgr. Gabriel Manek, SVD Hospital, Atambua. Method: Conducted from September–October 2025 at RSUD Mgr. Gabriel Manek, SVD., Atambua, this activity used an educational quasi-experimental approach involving 30 postpartum mothers and 10 midwives. Participants received training and practical hypnotherapy sessions. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after intervention. Result: The average pain intensity decreased from 4.9 (moderate) to 2.8 (mild) after therapy. 83% of mothers experienced better relaxation and sleep, and 90% of midwives reported increased confidence in using hypnotherapy. From a psychological perspective, hypnotherapy has a significant impact on the emotional stability and self-confidence of postpartum mothers. Participants reported an increased ability to cope with pain without fear and experienced a greater sense of calmness during the recovery period. Conclusion: Hypnotherapy has been proven effective in reducing postpartum pain levels among mothers after sectio caesarea at Mgr. Gabriel Manek, SVD Hospital, Atambua. This program provides physiological, psychological, and educational benefits for postpartum mothers while enhancing midwives’ competence in implementing non-pharmacological interventions. The implementation of this program is recommended to be integrated into maternity care protocols in regional hospitals and adopted as a sustainable training model for healthcare professionals in border areas.

Abstract

Introduction: Baby Blues Syndrome is a common psychological condition experienced by postpartum mothers, characterized by mood swings, anxiety, and emotional instability. Without proper intervention, it may progress into postpartum depression. Family support is a crucial protective factor, and family-based education has been identified as an effective preventive strategy. Objective: This community service aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of family-based education in preventing Baby Blues Syndrome among postpartum mothers at Puskesmas Umanen, Atambua. Method: This activity was conducted in March 2026 using a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design involving 40 postpartum mothers and their family members. The intervention consisted of structured family-based education, including psychoeducation, emotional support strategies, and coping mechanisms. Baby Blues symptoms were measured using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Result: The results showed a significant decrease in Baby Blues symptoms after the intervention, with the mean EPDS score decreasing from 11.2 to 6.5 (p < 0.001). Approximately 85% of mothers demonstrated improved emotional stability, and family members showed increased knowledge and involvement in maternal care. Conclusion: Family-based education is effective in preventing Baby Blues Syndrome and improving maternal emotional well-being. This approach is recommended to be integrated into routine maternal healthcare services at primary healthcare centers.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a major public health challenge in Indonesia, particularly in rural and border areas such as East Nusa Tenggara. Emerging evidence suggests that maternal psychological factors, including pregnancy stress and mental health disorders, play a critical role in child growth outcomes. However, the mediating role of maternal mental health in the relationship between antenatal stress and stunting remains underexplored in primary healthcare settings. Objective: To analyze the relationship between pregnancy stress and stunting incidence through maternal mental health as a mediating variable at Puskesmas Umanen, Atambua. Method: This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach conducted in March 2026. A total of 210 respondents (pregnant women and mothers with children aged 0–24 months) were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using validated instruments: Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS), and anthropometric measurements (height-for-age Z-score). Data were analyzed using mediation analysis with regression models (PROCESS Macro), with significance set at p < 0.05. Results: Pregnancy stress was significantly associated with stunting incidence (p < 0.05). Maternal mental health (depression/anxiety) significantly mediated this relationship (indirect effect p < 0.01), indicating a partial mediation model. Higher levels of stress increased the risk of poor maternal mental health, which in turn significantly increased the likelihood of stunting. Conclusion: Maternal mental health plays a significant mediating role in the relationship between pregnancy stress and stunting. Integrating mental health screening into antenatal care services is essential to reduce stunting risk in primary healthcare settings.
