Abstract

Betel is one of the medicinal plants often found around us. Because of its properties as an antiseptic and wound medicine, this plant can be cultivated. This research aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of green betel leaf essential oil against Propionibacterium acnes. This laboratory experimental research used a completely randomized design with three repetitions in five concentration treatments, one positive control and one negative control for Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. The test method used was the agar diffusion method. Data was collected by observing and measuring the inhibition zone on each Petri dish, which was then tabulated. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. At a concentration of 10µl, green betel leaf essential oil can be an antibacterial agent against Propionibacterium acnes, according to the results of measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone produced.

Abstract

Helicobacter pylori merupakan bakteri Gram-negatif penyebab gastritis, tukak peptik, dan kanker lambung. Daun jeruk bali (Citrus maxima Merr.) diketahui mengandung senyawa bioaktif yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun jeruk bali terhadap H. pylori menggunakan metode difusi cakram. Ekstrak diuji pada konsentrasi 25%, 50%, 100%, dan 200% dengan tiga kali pengulangan. Ciprofloxacin dan akuades digunakan sebagai kontrol positif dan negatif. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak memiliki aktivitas antibakteri dengan diameter zona hambat berturut-turut sebesar 10,76 mm, 11,68 mm, 12,50 mm, dan 15,71 mm. Kontrol positif menghasilkan zona hambat 35,13 mm, sedangkan kontrol negatif tidak menunjukkan zona hambat. Analisis ANOVA menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antar perlakuan (p < 0,05). Dengan demikian, ekstrak etanol daun C. maxima berpotensi sebagai sumber antibakteri alami terhadap H. pylori.
