Abstract

Bullying is one of the most prevalent social problems in schools and has a negative impact on students’ development. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in preventing bullying behavior through the inculcation of Islamic moral values at MTs Miftahus Syafa’ah. This research employed a qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that PAI teachers act as educators, mentors, and role models in instilling Islamic morals based on ḥablumminannās (respecting peers, politeness, mutual assistance, refraining from mocking, and avoiding harm). The strategies applied include Islamic education learning, habituation, religious activities, and teacher role modeling. The study also identified several obstacles, such as limited teaching strategies, weak supervision, and the influence of students’ social environment. This research emphasizes that the inculcation of Islamic moral values can serve as an effective preventive strategy against bullying, thereby fostering a religious, harmonious, and conducive school climate.

Abstract

The commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Mawlid) is an important religious-cultural tradition among Indonesian Muslims. However, studies examining the Islamic educational values embedded in the Maulid Arba'in tradition among Hadrami Arab-descendant communities remain limited. This study aims to identify and analyze the Islamic educational values contained in the Maulid Arba'in tradition in Al-Munawar Arab Village, 13 Ulu Palembang, and to examine its relevance to contemporary Islamic education. This research employed a qualitative ethnographic approach. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with religious leaders, community elders, organizers, and local residents, as well as documentation studies. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, while source triangulation was applied to ensure credibility. The findings revealed four major Islamic educational values within the Maulid Arba'in tradition: (1) faith (aqidah) and love for the Prophet, transmitted through the recitation of Barzanji and Diba'i texts; (2) moral and exemplary values conveyed through lectures on the Prophet’s biography; (3) social values and Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwah Islamiyah) fostered through communal dining and collective cooperation; and (4) spiritual values developed through collective dhikr and religious activities. The study found that the forty-night implementation of the tradition facilitates a continuous process of value internalization and intergenerational transmission of Islamic teachings. The study concludes that the Maulid Arba'in tradition functions as an effective informal Islamic educational system and serves as a local wisdom-based model of character education relevant to strengthening contemporary Islamic education in Indonesia.
