Abstract

Ship resistance signifies the amount of fluid force acting opposes the ship movement. Past researches revealed that installation of a stern flap reduces the value by 5% to 10%. The current research investigates resistance reduction on a patrol boat due to variation of the flap span width and angle of installation. The flap chord length was varied by 50% and 100% of the ship transom width (BT) whilst the installation angle was set to 00 and 50. Numerical tests were carried out using CFD method employing NUMECA Fine Marine software. Simulation result disclosed that the stern flap length of 50% BT installed at 00 indicates the most optimum arrangement. Reduction of the resistance value increases correspondingly to the ship resistance as the ship speed increases. The wave form developed conforms with the flap width such that the wider the flap results in wider wave form. A reduction at the most of 1.87% was yielded at 15 knot ship speed. No significant reduction was observed due to installation angle at 00 and 50.

Abstract

Propeller is a rounded blade that rotates in a circle, helping to move a vehicle by pushing against water or air. A speed boat's propeller moves it forward by spinning against the water. Propellers use the laws of physics to propel, or drive forward, an aircraft or a boat. The basic structure of a propeller is a spinning or rotating the shaft with wide, curved blades attached to it. The very simplest propellers were first used in ancient Greece, where the inventor Archimedes invented a "screw propeller" that moved water for irrigating crops. A method for making propeller is to use a casting method with sand mold. In operating the sand mold can only be used for one use, and in the molding process must be reconstructed which of course requires cost and additional time so it is less efficient. Therefore, making a propeller with a permanent mold is the right solution. In this study, the design of dies propeller production process with CNC (Computerized Numerical Control) machine was designed using the MasterCam software simulation method. In addition, variations in machining parameters feed rate, retract rate and depth of cut were also carried out using the Taguchi method. From the research has known the step of dies propeller production process and the time for cutting that used to calculate the most efficient variable variation. Based on the simulation that has been done, for making dies propeller requires ten steps of processing, there are facing, pocket, contour (top die), surface rough pocket, surface finish contour (top die), surface finish parallel, contour (bottom die), and surface finish contour (bottom die). From a series of work processes designed, the total processing time was produced for top die 729,17 minutes and cutting power was 9,734 kWh and for bottom die is about 1329,65 minutes and cutting power was 14,543 kWh.

Abstract

Propeller boss cap fin is one of the efforts to increase efficiency, especially in the field of ship propulsion. boss cap fins propeller or commonly called PBCF is one of the technologies that replace the boss cap propeller technology that first exists. Increasing efficiency can certainly have an impact on fuel consumption. This study will describe changes in efficiency, thrust, torque and the phenomenon of flow in the propeller after changes in span to chord ratio of fins with a fin form in the form of NACA foil. This research begins with determining the dimensions of the propeller and its model. The next step is to design and draw the boss cap fins propeller by modifying the span to chord ratio of the fins. The final step is analyzing propeller performance with software based on fluid dynamic computation. It is believed that changes in the PBCF span to chord ratio can improve efficiency, thrust, propeller torque, and minimize the hub vortex Simulations are carried out on four variations of the span to chord ratio, namely 0.17, 0.23, 0.29 and 0.34. From this study, it can be concluded that the propeller boss cap fins can increase thrust, torque, and efficiency, but the changes of span to chord ratio PBCF have not much effect on thrust, torque, and propeller efficiency. Increasing the PBCF span to chord ratio can reduce the hub vortex on the propeller.

Abstract

Indonesia is no longer known as an oil exporter country but Indonesia has a large deposit of natural gas. This situation will bring the conversion from using fuel oil to gas. It will also support IMO Regulation such as MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI Tier III which was stringent in the regulation to bring the world to achieve near zero emission level. One of the methods to comply with IMO tier III is using gas as a fuel. Therefore, the ship efficiency can be overcome by two aspects simultaneously, cheaper and cleaner gas as marine engine fuel. In this paper, LNG as fuel will be applied to 100 TEUs Container Carrier which is consider several technical aspects when the existing ship is modified so that natural gas can be used safely and well. Things to consider in this LNG re-design are; the volume of tank, bunkering station system, and the Gas Valve Unit (GVU). In addition, this design will also analyze the costs required to modify the vessel so that it can use dual fuel (MDO and LNG) as well as cost comparison when using single fuel (MDO).

Abstract

Ship resistance is main factors that can give more effect the design of a ship. In studies do it with a design modification of the stern form. The addition of stern design to establish Stern flaps and Stern wedge that will be affect the value of resistance and flow patterns sistem that follow in the stern so that the resistance will be smaller. In this final project will be reseach about resistance on the stern at Barehull shape, and with the addition of Stern flaps or Stern wedge with variations of chord length and chord angle. The focus of this reseach is reduction in ship resistance generated when the ship operates with stern flaps or stern wedges. The simulation is done by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method using NUMECA Fine Marine software. The results of the analysis can be seen in the addition of the stern and flow patterns sistem that follow. Based on the result of simulation, the most optimal stern form performance reduces the resistance is Stern flap 1% Lpp with angle 4°. The resistance value is reduced to 9.33 kN or 3.5% at 28 knots.

Abstract

As a maritime nation, the majority of people's livelihood in Indonesia coast is as a fishermen. The process of preserving fish after being caught will determine how good the product quality. One of process on preserving fish that can be done is to perform the cooling process using a cooling machine on board. Refrigeration system certainly requires high electrical power consumption. That high power usage can be reduced as much as possible, one of which is to add chopped ice (ice flake) on a fishing boat cargo space. So that the load for cooling can be reduced. The purpose of this thesis is to find out how the influence of the addition of ice flake on cooling load in the cargo hold of fishing vessels, and to know how much power is used when the cooling machine is combined with the addition of ice flake. In this analysis cooling load calculation refers to the standard ISO 7547.from the results of analysis found that the addition of ice flake on cargo space can reduce cooling load and can reduce electricity consumption day in the main vessel for the addition comparison flake ice and fish weight of 1: 1.
