Abstract

Problems in developing the coconut-based creative industry in North Sulawesi Province include limited business capital and modern processing technology, inconsistent product quality, and weak promotion and marketing. As a result, the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector is unable to maximize the potential of coconuts as a significant source of added value. This study aims to examine the added value of coconut-based food products and formulate policy strategies for the development of coconut-based creative industries MSME level. The research method is added value analysis using the Hayami (1987) approach and SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) for policy strategy formulation. The results of the study show that the output value of coconut-based food products reaches IDR 250,000 per unit, with an added value of IDR 25,214 per product and an added value ratio of 71%. Labor compensation is recorded at IDR 3,044 per kilogram or 12% of the added value, while the profit obtained is IDR 22,170 per product or 88%. SWOT analysis recommends a development strategy oriented towards a combination of S-O (Strengths–Opportunities) and W-O (Weaknesses–Opportunities), through improving production capacity and quality, strengthening promotion, and building partnerships with stakeholders, facilitated by the local government

Abstract

This study aims to (1) identify variables related to food availability, access, absorption, and security in South Minahasa Regency; and (2) determine the effect of food availability, access, and absorption on food security in South Minahasa Regency. The population in this study was all subdistricts in South Minahasa Regency, namely 17 subdistricts. The analysis method in this study used two approaches, namely descriptive analysis and intrinsic analysis. The descriptive analysis used in this study is presented in tables and graphs, while the inferential analysis in this study uses SEM-PLS analysis. Data processing in this study uses the Smart-PLS 4.0 application. Food security will be achieved if the three main dimensions of food security, namely: (i) availability; (ii) accessibility; and (iii) affordability by an individual (family) can be fulfilled. However, this study found that food availability does not affect food security, food access does not affect food security, and food absorption affects food security in South Minahasa Regency

Abstract

The development of the palm sugar agroindustry plays a crucial role in boosting the productivity and income of palm farmers. However, most palm farming operations have not yet been integrated into the processing industry. As a result, they are unable to increase farmers’ income. This study aims to: (1) examine and analyze the existing conditions of the palm sugar agroindustry system, (2) describe the EFI and EFE matrix factors of the palm sugar agroindustry system, (3) generate policy recommendations related to the development strategy of the palm sugar agroindustry. This study utilized primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from 20 palm farmers purposive sampling, while secondary data were obtained from relevant agencies, journals, and publications related to the research. The results of the study show that the total score from the EFI analysis is 3.449 (strong), while the total score from the EFE analysis is 2.027 (weak). Strategies to strengthen and enhance farmers’ business opportunities include maintaining product variety and specifications to reach broader markets, as well as leveraging advancements in transportation and information technology by actively utilizing social media. To turn weaknesses into opportunities, farmers must use advanced production tools, market products to new regions, and retain loyal customers. To mitigate threats, farmers need to strengthen their position by increasing product variety, offering affordable prices, and expanding transportation infrastructure to support production and marketing. To address weaknesses and threats, palm sugar farmers must prioritize product quality to ensure it aligns with consumer preferences.
