Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of teachers in fostering independent character among fifth-grade students through the implementation of Project Based Learning (PjBL) in IPAS subjects at SD Al-Khairiyyah Surabaya. The study is based on the problem that students’ independence has not been optimally developed due to teacher-centered learning practices. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings indicate that the implementation of PjBL contributes to the development of students’ self-confidence, responsibility, discipline, and problem-solving skills. However, the formation of independent character is strongly influenced by the teacher’s role in managing student autonomy in a structured and consistent manner throughout the learning process. Abstract

This study is motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary students in understanding economic activities, particularly production, distribution, and consumption, due to the use of conventional and less interactive learning media. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of EduButterfly media based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in improving students’ learning outcomes. This research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The subjects of this study were fourth-grade students at SDN Kedungdoro 2 Surabaya. Data were collected through tests (pretest and posttest) and student response questionnaires. The results show a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, as indicated by the increase in posttest scores compared to pretest scores and supported by the N-Gain results in the moderate to high category. In addition, student responses toward the use of EduButterfly media were very positive, indicating that the media is engaging, interactive, and effective in facilitating learning. Therefore, the EduButterfly media based on Project-Based Learning is proven to be effective in improving students’ understanding of economic activity materials in elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Javanese cultural learning at SD Antawirya Islamic Javanese School, which integrates Islamic values with local wisdom. The problem addressed in this research is the declining implementation of local culture in education due to modernization and globalization, which affects students’ character and cultural identity. This research focuses on the learning process, the role of teachers and the school environment, as well as the challenges and strategies in maintaining Javanese culture. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation applied to ensure data validity. The results show that Javanese cultural learning is integrated into daily school activities through the use of the Javanese language, the application of unggah-ungguh (etiquette), and culture-based learning programs such as the “Dolananku” module. Teachers and the school environment play a significant role as role models in instilling cultural and religious values. The main challenges include the influence of globalization and the lack of support from the external environment, particularly families. However, the implementation of this learning approach is proven to be effective in shaping students’ character to become polite, religious, and culturally grounded individuals.
