Abstract

Social science faces the challenge of bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and the dynamics of social reality. Conventional learning models tend to limit learning experiences, making it difficult to understand the complexity of an ever-changing social reality. This study aims to identify forms of outdoor laboratories and learning models that can support the learning process in the social sciences. The research method employed a literature review, with literature searches conducted through Publish or Perish, Consensus, Google Scholar, Gate, and Scopus using the keywords: "outdoor laboratory, outdoor activity, social science laboratory, living laboratory, and outdoor learning. Data analysis used thematic analysis to identify key patterns in the concepts, implementation, and impacts of outdoor laboratory-based learning. The results indicate that outdoor laboratories have been understood as spaces for knowledge production grounded in direct interaction with communities. Suitable learning models include outdoor learning with a design thinking approach and the Living Lab model, which emphasizes social innovation. The use of outdoor laboratories has a positive impact on cognitive aspects by enhancing critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities, as well as on social-emotional aspects by strengthening leadership character and awareness of environmental and local cultural issues. However, its implementation faces challenges related to human resources, infrastructure limitations, and integration with the formal curriculum. This research contributes to the development of a conceptual framework for outdoor laboratories to facilitate more contextual, authentic, and meaningful social science learning.

Abstract

Cross-gender art has long been part of performing arts in Indonesia, one example being the lengger performance in the Tutupan Tradition in Tambaknegara Village, Banyumas Regency, which requires men to act as sinden and lengger dancers like women. However, amid changing times, this art form has begun to face challenges in the form of negative stigma associating it with deviant behavior such as LGBT. This paper aims to examine the existence of cross-gender as part of the social system of society by analyzing it using Anthony Giddens' structuration theory. Data collection was carried out from January to November using qualitative methods with a life history approach. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that cross-gender in the Sadran Covering Tradition is a structured part of the social system of society. Being cross-gender is not merely a personal choice, but rather the fulfillment of traditional demands that prohibit women from appearing on stage. The existence of cross-gender dancers is a manifestation of Giddens' duality of structure, where individuals are not only shaped by social structures, but also actively reproduce and maintain those structures

Abstract

Beauty is a concept that is constructed and interpreted differently in every society. In performing arts, beauty becomes ani mportant part that influences the image of a dancer. This study aims to describe how dancers and the community interpret he beauty of lengger dancers in Wonosobo Regency. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenologicala pproach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation. The results of the study showt hat the meaning of beauty of lengger dancers from the community and lengger dancers themselves have differences. The community tends to interpret beauty visually, while dancers interpret it more broadly and specifically. Beauty will be more directed at inner beauty, flexibility in dancing, the ability to combine makeup and costumes and beauty through spirituala ctivities that are carried out. This meaning becomes a standard of beauty and develops in society. From this standard, a myth of beauty is constructed that becomes a control and is restrictive. The myth that develops makes lengger dancers manifest their beautiful appearance through the behavior they do. This is shown by lengger dancers such as taking care of themselves, honing their dance skills, using makeup according to developments and performing various special rituals.
