Abstract

The study arises from the contextual reality of churches facing tensions between their missional calling, limited resources, and the demand for sustainable diaconal ministry. However, diaconal studies in Indonesia still lack an integrative theological framework that connects normative reflection with contextual strategic planning. This research employs a qualitative conceptual approach within the framework of practical theology, using critical analysis of literature on diaconal theology, missio Dei, and strategic church planning. The findings indicate that determining the focus of diaconal ministry should not be understood merely as a managerial consideration, but as a theological decision in interpreting God’s calling amid concrete limitations. Through a contextual analysis of Callahan’s principle of focused ministry, this study argues that strategic planning gains theological significance when situated within the framework of the missio Dei. Accordingly, strategic diaconal theology is proposed as a practical theological framework that guides churches in shaping diaconal ministry that is contextual, focused, and sustainable.

Abstract

The current problem in biblical studies is a methodological crisis caused by modern hermeneutics that tends to eliminate the author's role, leading to interpretive relativism, while classical intentionalism remains overly focused on authorial psychology. However, no reconstructive model has yet integratively bridged these two poles within an applicable methodological framework. This study aims to offer a reconstruction of author intended meaning through a communicative approach based on Speech Act Theory. The method used is qualitative library research analyzing classical and modern hermeneutical literature. The findings show that critiques of classical intentionalism successfully correct author-centered models, but the complete elimination of the author's role risks relativism. The novelty lies in formulating three theoretical propositions that go beyond Hirsch's psychological model while avoiding Barthesian relativism: meaning as illocutionary act, the dialogical relationship between author, text, and reader, and methodological criteria for distinguishing meaning from significance. This model provides a middle path between textual objectivity and the dynamics of the modern reader, as seen in the exegesis of Amos 5:21-24 and Philemon 17-22. The study acknowledges limitations regarding apocalyptic texts, poetic genres, and its theoretical nature requiring further empirical testing.

Abstract

With the growth of the digital economy, stock investment has become an increasingly popular financial option among Christians. However, this practice is often accompanied by theological and ethical concerns, as many associate it with speculation or gambling, leaving minimal theological studies on its implications. This study formulates a framework of stock investment ethics grounded in Christian theology, positioning investment activities as an expression of financial stewardship entrusted by God. A descriptive qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach and literature study was employed. The findings suggest that stock investment can be understood as a form of financial stewardship entrusted by God. It reflects Christian ethics, emphasizing responsibility, loyalty, integrity, courage, and love, and contributes to advancing the values of God’s Kingdom in socio-economic life. The study implies that investment can serve as a spiritual means of glorifying God and benefiting others. It underscores the importance of developing church-based financial education grounded in biblical principles.
