Abstract

This study proposes a conceptual framework to analyze digital crisis communication strategies during large-scale telecommunications service outages, using the 2026 Telkomsel network disruption as an empirical illustration. As societal dependence on digital connectivity intensifies, network failures represent significant organizational crises that threaten corporate reputation and stakeholder trust. By synthesizing Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) and the Social-Mediated Crisis Communication (SMCC) model, this research identifies the causal mechanisms between crisis response strategies, digital communication, and transparency. In the proposed model, crisis response strategy serves as the independent variable, while digital communication acts as a mediating mechanism that shapes how stakeholders interpret organizational messages. Transparency is positioned as a critical moderating factor that reinforces the relationship between response strategies and stakeholder trust, which ultimately determines long-term corporate reputation. The study develops five propositions suggesting that proactive, transparent, and digitally mediated responses are essential for mitigating reputational damage in a high-velocity digital ecosystem. While providing a strategic roadmap for public relations practitioners in the telecommunications sector, this research also calls for future empirical validation through quantitative and comparative studies to test the robustness of the conceptual links across different industrial and cultural contexts.

Abstract

This study develops a conceptual framework explaining how community relations strategies contribute to building a social license to operate (SLO) through an agroforestry-based community empowerment program implemented by PT Tirta Investama (Danone-Aqua). The rapid growth of Indonesia’s bottled water industry has raised concerns regarding environmental impacts and unequal access to water resources. Consequently, companies in natural resource-based sectors must not only comply with formal regulations but also secure social acceptance from local communities. This study adopts a conceptual approach using a systematic literature review, integrating perspectives from public relations (PR), stakeholder theory, legitimacy theory, and SLO. Data were collected from scientific journals, academic books, institutional reports, and company documents related to community relations and sustainability practices. The analysis employs concept mapping and theoretical synthesis to examine relationships among community engagement, dialogic communication, trust building, social legitimacy, and public acceptance. The findings indicate that community relations strategies emphasizing two-way communication, transparency, and active participation enhance community involvement, strengthen trust, and foster social legitimacy. Agroforestry-based empowerment programs function as collaborative mechanisms that generate shared value for both companies and communities. Thus, community relations serve not only as a communication strategy for reputation building but also as a critical mechanism for obtaining and sustaining SLO, ultimately supporting long-term operational sustainability.

Abstract

The reputational crisis facing multinational corporations in Indonesia following MUI Fatwa No. 83 of 2023 represents a complex ideological challenge. This research analyzes the significant boycott pressures experienced by PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk, triggered by perceived geopolitical affiliations regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict. Utilizing qualitative content analysis grounded in Image Restoration Theory, this study examines how defensive narratives were constructed in official press releases to sustain brand resilience. The findings indicate that Unilever implemented strategic communication patterns centered on localization, specifically emphasizing local ownership, domestic operations, and halal certification. Furthermore, the company utilized transcendence strategies by highlighting its commitment to humanitarian aid in Gaza through official agencies. Theoretically, crisis communication effectiveness in religious markets depends heavily on aligning corporate narratives with the legitimacy of local religious authorities. This article serves as a practical guide for Public Relations practitioners in navigating sociopolitical crises while maintaining corporate legitimacy.

Abstract

The growing demand for authenticity in corporate communication has shifted public relations from organization-centered messaging toward founder-driven narratives that emphasize personal values as strategic organizational assets. This study investigates how founder personal branding strengthens corporate reputation through the alignment of individual and organizational values, using Paragon Corp and its founder, Nurhayati Subakat, as a qualitative case study. Situated within the highly competitive and value-oriented halal cosmetics industry, the research examines how the founder’s values of spirituality, humility, integrity, and care are embedded in the company’s organizational culture and stakeholder engagement practices. The study adopts a qualitative case study design supported by document analysis, public communication materials, and secondary data. The analysis is guided by the Values-Driven Persona framework and Person–Organization Fit (P–O Fit) theory to explain how founder identity is transformed into organizational legitimacy and reputational capital. The findings demonstrate that the alignment between Nurhayati Subakat’s personal values and the “Paragon Way” corporate culture creates a coherent organizational identity that enhances stakeholder trust, brand authenticity, and corporate credibility. This value alignment also functions as a reputational safeguard by reducing stakeholder skepticism and fostering long-term emotional commitment, particularly within collectivist cultural contexts. The study contributes to the literature on founder-led branding by proposing value alignment as a fundamental mechanism linking founder personal branding with sustainable corporate reputation. Future research should validate this conceptual framework across different industries and cultural settings using quantitative and comparative approaches.

Abstract

This study explores the strategic role of public relations (PR) within PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, conceptualizing it as an integral management function that drives market value and corporate resilience. Amidst the rapid digitalization and geopolitical uncertainties of 2025–2026, the research investigates how PR manages the intersection of digital sovereignty, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) integration, and market authority. Utilizing a conceptual research approach through a systematic literature review, this study synthesizes Excellence Theory and Stakeholder Theory to develop an Integrated PR-Management (IPM) model. The findings demonstrate that PR at Telkom acts as a strategic architect by transforming technical infrastructure initiatives such as the launch of the Satelit Merah Putih 2 and decarbonization efforts into authoritative narratives that enhance investor trust and secure regulatory legitimacy. Furthermore, the study highlights that effective PR communication, validated by external accolades like the PR Indonesia Awards, is essential for navigating B2B markets and mitigating reputational risks. The analysis emphasizes that digital reputation is a critical intangible asset, and the alignment of PR Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with core business metrics is vital for long-term sustainability. The proposed IPM framework offers a roadmap for state-owned enterprises to navigate technological disruptions by bridging technical operational excellence with persuasive strategic communication. Consequently, this research underscores the necessity of reforming traditional siloed communication structures into AI-integrated, fluid units to maintain competitiveness in the 2026 digital era.
