Abstract

Dental and oral health problems in children, such as dental caries, can cause toothache that disrupts sleep and concentration, impair chewing ability which reduces nutritional intake, and potentially affect cognitive and psychomotor development. According to the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI, 2023), the prevalence of dental caries among children aged 3–4 years is 81.1%, among those aged 5–9 years is 92.6%, and among those aged 10–14 years is 73.4%. Preliminary survey results indicated that most kindergarten children experience dental and oral health problems. This study aims to examine the relationship between parents’ knowledge and the maintenance of dental and oral health in kindergarten children in the working area of UPTD Ulak Rengas Public Health Center, North Lampung, in 2025. This is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 59 parents, selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The frequency distribution test results showed that 19 respondents (32.2%) had poor dental health maintenance, while 40 respondents (67.8%) had good dental health maintenance. The chi-square statistical test revealed a significant relationship between knowledge (p-value = 0.007; OR = 5.815) and dental health maintenance. It is recommended that the public health center strengthen regular and scheduled dental and oral health education and counseling programs for the community through posyandu (integrated health service posts), schools, and other community activities.

Abstract

Background: A healthy lifestyle comprising adequate physical activity, a balanced diet, and good rest habitsis crucial for maintaining health and preventing non-communicable diseases. According to the World Health Organization, a lack of physical activity and sedentary behavior can increase the risk of various conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and obesity. However, many people still do not fully grasp the importance of consistently adopting a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, educational outreach is needed to enhance public knowledge and awareness regarding healthy living, particularly among vulnerable groups such as infants, toddlers, pregnant women, and the elderly. Purpose: To increase public knowledge and awareness regarding the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle as a means of preventing non-communicable diseases among vulnerable groups. Method: This community service activity was conducted on April 10, 2026, at 08:00 WIB at the Kenanga Natar Community Health Center (Puskesmas). The activity involved various target groups, comprising approximately 65 infants and toddlers, 15 elderly individuals, and 5 pregnant women. The session was designed to be systematic and participatory, utilizing leaflets and posters as educational aids. Evaluation was based on observations of participants' understanding and their commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle following the educational session. Results: The outreach activity proceeded successfully, with enthusiastic participation from the attendees. This was evidenced by the fact that the majority of participants actively engaged with the material presented. The knowledge gained serves as a guide, offering practical and measurable steps that can be applied in daily life. Furthermore, participants gained an understanding of the importance of physical activity—such as regular exercise for at least 30 minutes a day or 150 minutes a week (e.g., brisk walking, aerobics, or cycling). Conclusion: Direct, interactive educational activities regarding healthy lifestyles are highly effective in raising public awareness and understanding as a means of maintaining long-term health. Increased knowledge about healthy living also positively influences changes in attitudes and habits regarding health management in daily life. Suggestion: Participants are encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle that includes regular physical activity (such as morning walks or *Prolanis* aerobics), adequate water intake, at least 6–7 hours of sleep per day, reduced salt and fat consumption, and a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Community health volunteers are also urged to actively mobilize the elderly population to support *Prolanis* activities and to monitor the health of the elderly in order to reduce the risk of stroke.
