Abstract

In the urban hydrological system, Green Open Spaces (GOS) function as rainwater infiltration areas. However, rapid urban development in Banjarbaru City has led to a reduction in green areas, resulting in decreased soil infiltration capacity and increased surface ponding. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Green Open Spaces as groundwater recharge areas. Infiltration testing was conducted using a double-ring infiltrometer at five-minute intervals, with three repetitions at each location until steady-state conditions were achieved. The results were then analyzed using the Horton equation and the actual infiltration method. The findings indicate that Bumi Cahaya Bintang Green Open Space exhibits the highest infiltration rate, reaching 67.78 cm/hour based on the Horton method and 52.8 cm/hour based on actual measurements, while the lowest infiltration rate was observed at Taman Mawar Lansia, with values of 24.97 cm/hour (Horton) and 16 cm/hour (actual). The Horton method demonstrates a consistent trend with the actual measurements and can therefore be considered representative. Overall, Green Open Spaces in Banjarbaru City function effectively as infiltration areas, with infiltration rates classified as rapid to very rapid.

Abstract

Caraka Jaya Village, Liang Anggang District, has significant agricultural potential, particularly for vegetables. Farmers in the village grow various types of vegetables on peatlands and produce quite good yields. However, over the past two years, there has been a phenomenon where yields have decreased. This is suspected to be due to excessive exposure to chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Furthermore, some farmers complain about limited water resources, forcing them to only plant according to the availability of rainwater. Therefore, they desire a more secure water source, so they have proposed building groundwater wells with a simple irrigation network, a simple technology application in peatlands. Furthermore, the application of organic fertilizer, as a continuation of previous community service activities, is also being carried out to prevent the proliferation of pests and to increase agricultural production. Another necessary activity is providing communication strategy training to strengthen institutional capacity so that farmers are empowered to negotiate with collectors not only as individuals but also as institutions representing the interests of farmers. The results of this empowerment are expected to improve the lives of farmer groups that are part of the farming community, thereby boosting the economy and supporting the realization of environmentally friendly agriculture.

Abstract

Agriculture is a crucial sector in Indonesia’s economic development. It provides food for the population, feed and energy resources, and serves as a primary source of livelihood for rural communities. To enhance rice production, one key government program is the development of irrigation networks. These networks play a vital role in agriculture and directly impact both the quality and quantity of rice yields. Regions with natural resources that are suitable for tidal or swamp irrigation systems are continually evaluated and developed. These areas are used for agriculture, aquaculture, and water transportation. This study analyzes water quality to determine its suitability for agricultural use as outlined in Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. Parameters measured include field assessments of physical water quality using the U-50 HORIBA multi water quality checker. These parameters cover temperature, acidity, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and total dissolved solids. The research site is Sabuhur Village, Jorong District, Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan Province. Measurements of physical and chemical water quality show that water conditions in agricultural land and nearby rivers or ponds are within acceptable ranges to support farming. This condition confirms that the surrounding aquatic environment does not pose significant constraints on plant growth and instead serves as a key factor in agricultural productivity. Thus, the water at the research site is suitable for agricultural use. However, further research is needed on soil characteristics, both physical and chemical.
