Abstract

This research is a descriptive qualitative study that aims to identify junior high school students' misconceptions regarding Motion and Force and to analyze gender differences. The research sample consisted of 30 students, namely 15 males and 15 females, from SMP 1 Burneh Bangkalan. The instrument used was the Three-Tier Diagnostic Test, which grouped students' understanding into the categories Know the Concept, Don't Know the Concept, and Misconception. The results showed a fairly high level of misconceptions in several topics. In the MK 3 category, female students showed a 26.2% and male students 26.7% on the topic of Average Speed. In the MK 2 category, the topic of Influence of External Forces had a high level of misconceptions, namely 16.7% in both genders. In the MK 1 category, the topic of Aerodynamics and Friction showed misconceptions of 20.0% in female students and 33.3% in male students. Overall, the gender analysis showed that both genders experienced misconceptions, but with different tendencies in each category.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan hasil belajar siswa melalui media video animasi menggunakan model pembelajaran inkuiri pada materi sistem pernapasan manusia kelas VIII SMP. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP Al-Kholiliyah Bangkalan dengan tujuan meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII-A SMP Al-Kholiliyah Bangkalan. PTK ini dilakukan dengan 1 siklus. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu tes berupa pretest dan posttest, observasi dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan yaitu analisis kualitatif dan deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil dari penelitian tindakan kelas ini yaitu, media video animasi berbasis inkuiri cukup efektif diterapkan dalam pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada materi sistem pernapasan di SMP Al-Kholiliyah Bangkalan.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the level and form of misconceptions among students at SMPN 1 Kamal regarding the structure and function of plant tissues. The study used a quantitative descriptive method involving 52 eighth grade students. Data were obtained through a five tier diagnostic test and teacher interviews to reinforce the findings. The results of the study indicate that misconceptions still occur in all topics with an average percentage of 9.6% in root tissue, 11.1% in stem tissue, and 8.3% in leaf tissue. Common misconceptions included the assumption that stomata absorb water and nutrients like roots, that all stem tissues serve only a transport function without distinguishing xylem, phloem, and supporting tissue, and that photosynthesis takes place evenly across the whole leaf rather than mainly in the palisade tissue. The five tier diagnostic test proved effective in revealing conceptual understanding, the level of confidence in answers, and the reasons underlying students' responses. Overall, this study emphasises the need for more contextual and concrete media-based learning strategies to minimize misconceptions about the structure and function of plant tissues. Keyword: Five tier diagnostic test, Misconceptions, Structure and function of plant tissues Penelitian ini dilakukan bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi tingkat dan bentuk miskonsepsi siswa SMPN 1 Kamal pada materi struktur dan jaringan fungsi tumbuhan. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif dengan melibatkan 52 siswa kelas VIII SMP. Data diperoleh melalui five tier diagnostic test serta wawancara guru untuk memperkuat temuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa miskonsepsi masih terjadi pada seluruh topik dengan persentase rata-rata 9,6% pada jaringan akar, 11,1% pada jaringan batang, dan 8,3% pada jaringan daun. Miskonsepsi yang umum ditemukan antara lain anggapan bahwa stomata menyerap air dan nutrisi seperti akar, bahwa seluruh jaringan batang hanya berfungsi sebagai jalur transport tanpa membedakan floem, xilem, dan jaringan penyokong, serta bahwa fotosintesis berlangsung merata di seluruh bagian daun, padahal sebagian besar berlangsung pada jaringan palisade. Five tier diagnostic test terbukti efektif mengungkap pemahaman konseptual, tingkat keyakinan jawaban, dan alasan yang mendasari respons siswa. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menegaskan perlunya strategi pembelajaran yang lebih kontekstual dan berbasis media konkret untuk meminimalkan terjadinya miskonsepsi terhadap struktur dan fungsi jaringan tumbuhan.
