Abstract

This research aims to identify and analyze various approaches used by Islamic Religious Education teachers in improving Qur'an reading skills among 6th-grade students at SDN 1 Tempursari in the 2024/2025 academic year. The study employs a descriptive qualitative methodology, collecting data through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Research participants include Islamic Religious Education teachers, school principals, and 6th-grade students. The research findings reveal that strategies implemented by Islamic Religious Education teachers include: (1) application of the Iqro' method adapted to each student's proficiency level; (2) utilization of audio-visual learning media and digital applications for Qur'an learning; (3) organization of peer tutoring study groups; (4) implementation of regular Qur'an recitation activities for 15 minutes before Islamic Religious Education lessons begin; and (5) establishment of collaboration with parents and local Qur'anic Education Centers (TPQ) in the school environment. Several factors supporting the success of these strategies include supportive school policies, availability of adequate facilities and infrastructure, and active parental involvement. Meanwhile, factors hindering strategy implementation include limited time allocated for Islamic Religious Education learning, diversity in students' basic abilities, and minimal habituation of Qur'an reading in the family environment. Based on the research results, several recommendations are proposed including increasing time allocation for Qur'an learning, developing religious extracurricular programs, and optimizing parents' role in accompanying children learning to read the Qur'an at home.

Abstract

Fiqh learning has an important role in shaping the character of students, but in reality there are still many students who have not shown character in accordance with the Islamic values learned in fiqh. This condition can be seen from the presence of students who are not disciplined in worship, lack of respect for teachers, and behavior that does not reflect noble character. This study aims to analyze the role of fiqh learning in building the character of grade XI students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Wonogiri and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that fiqh learning plays a role in building religious character, discipline, responsibility, and social care through the integration of character values in learning materials, teacher exemplary, and habituation of worship practices. The impact of fiqh learning can be seen from the increasing awareness of students in carrying out worship, respect for teachers, and concern for others. This research contributes to the development of effective fiqh learning strategies for character building.

Abstract

This research examines the strengthening of Al-Qur’an literacy through Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at SD Ashabul Kahfi PK Sidoharjo. Al-Qur’an literacy in this context goes beyond the mechanical ability to read Arabic script; it also includes the comprehension of meaning, internalization of Qur’anic values, and their application in everyday life. Employing a qualitative approach with data collected through interviews, observation, and document analysis, the study reveals that Qur’anic literacy reinforcement is primarily implemented through the habituation of reading the Qur’an before daily learning activities.  This program is designed to prepare students’ mental and spiritual readiness while embedding religious values into their daily routines, serving as a preventive measure against moral decline in the era of globalization. Key supporting factors in the implementation of the program include strong collaboration among school stakeholders—teachers, principals, and administrative staff—as well as active parental involvement. These elements contribute to a school environment that consistently promotes Qur’anic engagement and values-based education.  However, a notable challenge remains: the lack of awareness among some students regarding the deeper significance of Qur’anic learning. This is reflected in the low intrinsic motivation and passive participation observed during Qur’an reading sessions. Despite this, the program has shown measurable effectiveness in enhancing students’ Qur’anic reading fluency and comprehension, while also positively contributing to their character formation.  The educational approach adopted by the school is oriented toward Rabbani values those centered on spiritual consciousness and moral excellence. Through consistent Qur’an-based character education, students are encouraged to develop noble traits such as discipline, humility, patience, and emotional regulation. In conclusion, the Qur’anic literacy program at SD Ashabul Kahfi PK Sidoharjo presents a valuable model for integrating religious instruction with holistic character education, contributing meaningfully to the school’s broader mission of shaping spiritually resilient and morally upright individuals.
