Abstract

This study aims to analyze language metafunctions in the camping-related conversations in the cartoon Adit Sopo Jarwo using Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) approach. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with documentation techniques through conversation transcripts consisting of 45 clauses from three contexts. The data were analyzed based on three language metafunctions, namely ideational, interpersonal, and textual metafunctions. The findings show that the ideational metafunction is dominated by material processes that represent the characters’ physical activities, accompanied by mental and relational processes that express attitudes and conditions of participants. In the interpersonal metafunction, declarative clauses with modality are predominantly used to build social interaction while conveying information. Meanwhile, the textual metafunction reveals a coherent and structured Theme-Rheme pattern that organizes the flow of information. The novelty of this study lies in the use of conversational data from an Indonesian local cartoon as the object of metafunction analysis, which has mostly been applied to written texts or formal discourse, thus contributing to SFL studies in popular media and informal interaction. The implication of this study is that the metafunctions of language can be applied to popular media such as cartoons to understand interaction patterns and language functions in informal communication.

Abstract

The development of the digital era has accelerated the dissemination of cultural information, including oral traditions, which are an important heritage of the Lampung people. One distinctive oral tradition that has received attention is memmang, a form of spell steeped in magical and spiritual values. This study aims to describe the existence of the memmang tradition in Lampung society, uncover its function and meaning, and preserve its preservation amidst the dynamics of modernization and globalization. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and document analysis, including traditional manuscripts as the primary source. The results show that memmang plays a central role in the social life and beliefs of the Lampung people, but is facing a decline in function due to changes in social values, religious influences, and minimal regeneration from the younger generation. Nevertheless, this tradition is still preserved to a limited extent by several communities through oral inheritance and written documentation. This study emphasizes the importance of documentation efforts, cultural education, and the use of digital technology so that the memmang oral tradition can continue to live and be relevant in the modern era.

Abstract

Objective: Abstract This study aims to uncover the moral values and forms of local wisdom contained in Pepaccur, a form of oral literature of the Lampung people that serves as a medium for conveying advice, communication, and social ethical guidelines. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a sociology of literature approach, this study examines several Pepaccur texts obtained through documentation and interviews with cultural practitioners. The analysis focused on identifying the moral values emerging in these oral expressions and their relationship to the Lampungnese philosophy of life, Piil Pesenggiri. The results reveal that Pepaccur encompasses moral values of piety to God, politeness, social solidarity, and wisdom in social interactions. These values reflect elements of local wisdom such as nemui nyimah (love), nengah nyappur (grace), sakai (grace), and juluk adek (dear sister), which serve as ethical guidelines for the Lampung people in maintaining social harmony and order. Thus, Pepaccur is not only a form of oral art but also a cultural representation that serves to preserve and transmit moral values between generations

Abstract

This study examines the role of1 greetings in shaping social identity, building a sense of group unity, and creating harmony among 2people in Lampung and Komering communities. In this context, greetings not only serve as conversation starters but also as tools to strengthen cultural rules, social hierarchical structures, and community integration in the Lampung region. This study uses a communication ethnography and discourse analysis approach. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with local residents, and text analysis of daily interactions. The results show that in Lampung society, greetings tend to be formal and hierarchical, such as using the words "Pak" or "Bu" to show respect, while in Komering society, greetings are more free and emphasize equality and familiarity to strengthen relationships within the extended family. The constructive function of these greetings is seen in efforts to preserve traditions, reduce conflict, and adapt to changing times. This study helps to better understand Indonesian language culture and suggests steps to preserve traditional greetings so that they are not eroded by the impact of globalization.

Abstract

Piil Pesenggiri is a philosophy of life that contains the values of local wisdom of the Lampung people, including moral, social, and cultural principles that regulate individual, family, and community relationships. In facing the currents of globalization that bring rapid change and the challenges of cultural homogenization, Piil Pesenggiri plays a role as a basis for cultural resilience by maintaining the identity, norms, and traditions typical of Lampung alive and passed down. This study explores the concept, function, and relevance of Piil Pesenggiri in maintaining social and cultural integrity amidst the dynamics of changing times. Qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach are used to examine the practice and meaning of Piil Pesenggiri among the Lampung people. The results of the study indicate that this philosophy strengthens social solidarity and becomes a mechanism for adaptation and protection of cultural values, thereby strengthening cultural resilience in facing the challenges of globalization.

Abstract

Objective: This academic study compares the fundamental curriculum development models of Ralph W. Tyler, Hilda Taba, and Peter F. Oliva, examining their direct relevance to the modern Indonesian Language and Literature curriculum under the current Merdeka Belajar policy framework. Employing qualitative library research, the study identifies a significant convergence in core curricular structures objectives, content, process, and evaluation ensuring cohesive national quality standards across schools. The primary divergence lies in teacher autonomy. The Merdeka Curriculum specifically adopts Taba’s inductive spirit, granting vital flexibility for localized classroom diagnosis, contrasting with Tyler’s rigid linear approach. Meanwhile, Oliva’s comprehensive model provides an open-system perspective that effectively adapts to dynamic sosiocultural shifts within society. The synthesis of these three classic models strengthens genre pedagogy and multimodal texts in Indonesian language learning. Today's curriculum development represents a hybridization of Tyler's goal clarity, Taba's teacher autonomy, and Oliva's open system. This comprehensive integration successfully fosters systematic yet adaptive learning, ultimately enhancing student literacy and realizing the critical Pancasila Student Profile. Ultimately, it proves that local classroom flexibility can successfully coexist with accountable national standards

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the Buharak tradition among the Lampung Saibatin community as a form of cultural preservation in the Lampung Pesisir region. Buharak is a wedding procession held after the marriage ceremony with the aim of introducing the couple to the community while affirming the honor of the family and social status in the Saibatin customary system. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with in-depth interview techniques, participatory observation, and documentation studies of traditional leaders, ritual performers, and coastal communities. Data analysis is carried out through a thematic approach with stages of reduction, categorization, and interpretation of meaning. The results show that Buharak has three main functions: as a social glue that strengthens community solidarity and mutual cooperation (sakai sambayan); as a marker of status and customary legitimacy that reflects the hierarchical social structure of the Saibatin community; and as an arena for negotiating modernity, where the younger generation and religious leaders adapt traditional practices to align with Islamic norms and current socio-economic conditions. This adaptation is evident in the simplification of the duration of the procession, reduction of costs, integration of religious elements, and digital documentation that expands the scope of cultural preservation.

Abstract

Abstract This study developed and evaluated a project-based learning (PjBL) module for Grade 5 Indonesian language lessons on the intrinsic elements of literary texts. Following the ADDIE model, the study combined expert validation, limited practicality testing, and a one-group pretest-posttest field trial. Three experts assessed content, language, and media; six teachers and six students joined the limited trial; and 33 students at SDN 3 Karang Anyar, Bandar Lampung, completed the field implementation. Data were collected through validation sheets, observations, questionnaires, interviews, and creativity tests. Aiken’s V coefficients were .765 for content, .776 for language, and .938 for media. Practicality scores were 88% from teachers and 85% from students. Mean creativity scores increased from 37.73 to 88.11, with a normalized gain of .81. The findings provide preliminary evidence that the module is usable and can support creative responses to literary texts, although the single-group design does not permit a causal inference.
