Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a public health problem that occurs annually in Pelayangan District, Jambi City. The presence and distribution of Aedes mosquitoes may vary across different areas. One method that can be used to monitor the presence of Aedes mosquitoes is the ovitrap. Ovitraps are relatively simple, inexpensive, and can be made using readily available materials. This study aimed to determine the utilization of ovitraps in monitoring the presence of Aedes mosquitoes as an effort to control Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in Pelayangan District, Jambi City. Methods: This study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted in Mudung Laut Subdistrict, Pelayangan District, Jambi City. Ovitraps were installed in residents' houses that had previously received socialization regarding the study. The ovitraps were made from used plastic bottles covered with black plastic, filled with water, brown sugar, and yeast as an attractant. Each house was provided with one ovitrap, which was placed in potential mosquito resting and breeding areas, such as under tables, chairs, in kitchens, and bedrooms. The ovitraps were examined after seven days to determine the presence and type of trapped mosquitoes. Data were collected through direct observation and analyzed descriptively. Results: The observations showed the presence of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in the ovitraps installed in residents' houses in Mudung Laut Subdistrict. This finding indicates that the area has the potential for Aedes aegypti breeding and supports the need for continuous vector surveillance and control efforts. Conclusion: The utilization of ovitraps can assist communities in monitoring the presence of Aedes aegypti and can serve as a practical and simple method to support DHF vector control efforts in Mudung Laut Subdistrict, Pelayangan District, Jambi City.
