Abstract

ABSTRACT Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type 2 is a common metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia. The most frequent microvascular complication in diabetes patients is diabetic nephropathy. Dietary management is one of the approaches in DM treatment. Intermittent fasting as a dietary intervention has been shown to improve overall health, weight management, blood pressure, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR). This study aims to investigate the effects of intermittent fasting on urea and creatinine levels in Wistar rats with a diabetes model. This study is a quantitative experimental analysis conducted in vitro in a laboratory setting, using a pretest and post-test group design. There was no difference in urea and creatinine levels before and after the intermittent fasting diet treatment in Wistar white rats. The one-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests indicated no significant differences among the groups, as evidenced by the statistical test results with p-values > 0.05 (not significant). There was no difference in urea and creatinine levels before and after the intermittent fasting diet treatment in Wistar white rats. Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease, primarily affecting the elderly, and is classified into primary OA (with no specific cause) and secondary OA (caused by other diseases or conditions). Although it cannot be cured, appropriate management can control the symptoms and prevent disease progression. This study aims to assess the perception and knowledge of hip and knee OA patients in Jambi City using the Osteoarthritis Knowledge Scale (OAKS) instrument. Data were obtained from 87 patients at Kambang General Hospital: 54 filled out the Knee OAKS and 33 for Hip OAKS. The results showed that patients' understanding of general knowledge about OA was high (84%), but knowledge related to prevention was significantly lower (44%). Knowledge regarding treatment and symptom management was moderate (68.2%), and understanding of healthy lifestyle behaviors was 53%. These findings indicate a significant gap in patient knowledge, particularly regarding preventive measures and lifestyle modifications. Therefore, targeted educational interventions are crucial to improve patient understanding, enhance self-management, and ultimately achieve better clinical outcomes in managing OA. Abstract

In the era of globalization and rapid technological advancement, the healthcare sector in Indonesia faces various challenges, including the need for innovation and more effective services. Medical students possess significant potential to contribute to creating relevant solutions for public health issues. However, many of them lack adequate entrepreneurial skills. Conventional teaching methods often fall short in providing students with the practical skills necessary. Therefore, the implementation of Project-based Learning (PjBL) in entrepreneurship courses becomes essential. Through PjBL, students not only learn theory but also engage directly in projects related to current health issues. This allows them to develop practical skills such as market research and business planning. The program involved 119 first-semester medical students, beginning with a Pre-Test to assess their initial knowledge about Community Service, followed by presentation sessions and a Post-Test to evaluate their understanding. Results showed that 60% of students were interested in entrepreneurship within the healthcare sector; 52.5% recognized its importance; however, 70% still lacked an understanding of business concepts in healthcare. A significant increase was observed after the Post-Test was conducted. The application of PjBL needs to be conducted continuously to further enhance students' knowledge about entrepreneurship. Abstract

Kata kunci : gula darah puasa, diabetes mellitus tipe 2, remaja Abstract The rising prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) among adolescents is an increasing global health concern, including in Indonesia, particularly in Jambi City. In response to this issue, this community outreach aimed to conduct screening and educational activities to prevent T2DM among adolescents in Jambi City. The activities involved identifying gender, age, body mass index (BMI), and fasting blood glucose levels. 119 respondents comprised 31.1 % males and 68.9 % females aged 19-20. The BMI results showed 5.7% underweight, 13.1% slightly underweight, 61.5% average weight, 5.7% overweight, and 11.5% obese. Additionally, fasting blood glucose levels were recorded, with 99.2 % of respondents having levels below 125 mg/dL and 0.8 % above 125 mg/dL. This activity shows that most adolescents in Jambi City who have been screened have a Body Mass Index (BMI) and Fasting Blood Glucose Levels in the normal category. This indicates adolescents in Jambi have a low risk of T2DM. However, there are 0.8% of adolescents with fasting blood glucose levels above 125 mg/dl and 17.2% (non-ideal body mass), indicating a risk of prediabetes and obesity as the main factors in the development of T2DM. The findings highlight the importance of early screening and education to prevent the increasing incidence of T2DM in adolescents.
