Abstract

Level of Understanding of the Concept of Self and Others Protection from Infectious Diseases in Elementary School Students Abstract This study aimed to assess the understanding of fifth-grade students at SDN 1 Barejulat regarding self-care and prevention of infectious diseases. A descriptive quantitative approach with a survey method was employed, targeting the entire population (total sampling) of 41 students. The research instrument consisted of a multiple-choice test containing 17 items, measuring three transmission routes: skin, respiratory, and digestive systems. Results showed that 41.46% of students demonstrated a "fair" understanding, with the best comprehension found in digestive transmission (46.34% in the "good" category). Conversely, understanding of respiratory transmission lagged behind, with 24.39% in the "poor" category. In conclusion, while students possessed basic knowledge of disease prevention, further efforts were needed, especially in understanding airborne transmission. The study recommended implementing interactive learning methods and involving parents to strengthen health education at home.
