Abstract

ABSTRACT English proficiency as a global language is an important skill that must be instilled since the primary education level. However, English learning at the elementary school level experiences various obstacles, especially in terms of utilizing teaching media that can attract students' interest, such as in the Preposition of place material. This research was conducted for the purpose of comparing the effectiveness of using conventional media with Wordwall media in maximizing students' understanding of the material. This research was conducted in the form of Classroom Action Research at SDN 060843 Medan City for two cycles with a qualitative descriptive approach. In the first cycle, teaching was conducted using traditional methods such as lectures and the use of a blackboard. While in the second cycle, Wordwall media was used which was interactive and based on educational games. The results obtained showed that in the first cycle, students were less active and their understanding of the material was still low. In contrast, in the second cycle there was an increase in participation, enthusiasm for learning, and understanding of the material provided in learning. The following findings indicate that the use of Wordwall media provides more positive results than conventional methods in learning Preposition of place. Thus, it can be summarized that the integration of interactive digital media such as Wordwall greatly supports the development of the quality of English learning at the primary school level and is a solution to the challenges of education in the digital era. ABSTRAK Kemahiran Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa global menjadi beberapa keterampilan penting yang harus ditanamkan sejak jenjang pendidikan dasar. Meski demikian, pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di jenjang sekolah dasar mengalami berbagai hambatan, terutama dalam hal pemanfaatan media pengajaran yang sanggup menarik ketertarikan siswa, seperti pada materi Preposition of place. Riset ini dilakukan untuk tujuan membandingkan efektivitas pemakaian media konvensional dengan media Wordwall dalam memaksimalkan pemahaman siswa terhadap materi tersebut. Riset ini dilakukan dengan bentuk Penelitian Tindakan Kelas di SDN 060843 Kota Medan selama dua siklus dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Pada siklus pertama, pengajaran dilakukan dengan metode tradisional seperti ceramah dan penggunaan papan tulis. Sedangkan pada siklus kedua, digunakan media Wordwall yang berbentuk interaktif dan berbasis permainan edukatif. Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa pada siklus pertama, siswa terlihat kurang aktif dan pemahaman terhadap materi masih rendah. Sebaliknya, pada siklus kedua terjadi peningkatan partisipasi, semangat belajar, serta memahami materi yang diberikan dalam pembelajaran. Temuan berikut ini mengindikasikan bahwa penggunaan media Wordwall memberikan hasil yang lebih positif dibandingkan metode konvensional dalam pembelajaran Preposition of place. Dengan begitu, dapat dirangkum bahwa integrasi media digital interaktif seperti Wordwall sangat mendukung pengembangan mutu pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di jenjang sekolah dasar dan menjadi solusi terhadap tantangan pendidikan di era digital.
