<![CDATA[AbstractThis article reveals the contradictions of the symbolic struggle of the protagonist Kalaya in Pinto Anugrah's novel Jemput Terbawa with the trauma background of the upheaval of the 1958 PRRI War in West Sumatra. The problem in this study was how contradictory the struggle of the protagonist Kalaya in obtaining symbolic recognition from the community and his mother, who has a traumatic background of the upheaval of the 1958 PRRI War, when his existence was a dilemma because he has enemy blood and he was not wanted. The problem of the symbolic struggle is analyzed using Pierre Bourdieu's concept, namely habitus and capital in the social arena with the turmoil of past trauma. The data were analyzed using Bourdieu's concept to reveal the causes of contradictions and levels of symbolic struggle of the characters and linked in literary texts contextually with social and historical aspects. This research finds that Kalaya's struggle effort can be said to be unsuccessful because of the social and historical contradictions that affect the social space depicted in the novel; The protagonist's contradiction occurs when the potential for success in his struggle, namely habitus and capital, especially social and symbolic capital, is hampered due to the historical past of the community and itself. As a result, his existence was rejected by his mother and the people there. In parallel, this novel is symbolic of the trauma of the 1959 PRRI defeat for the Minang people in the PRRI War. The trauma of defeat and the atrocities of war can destroy the capital and habit of a person and society. However, this does not mean that Bourdieu's concept is not suitable for this novel. The failure of the struggle occurred because of the dilemma of war trauma that caused contradictions.Keywords: Pick-up and taken, PRRI, Bourdieu, habitus, modal AbstrakArtikel ini mengungkap kontradiksi perjuangan simbolis protagonis Kalaya dalam novel Jemput Terbawa karya Pinto Anugrah dengan latar belakang trauma pergolakan Perang PRRI 1958 di Sumatra Barat. Masalah dalam penelitian ini ialah bagaimana kontradiksi perjuangan protagonis Kalaya dalam memperoleh pengakuan simbolis dari masyarakat dan ibunya, yang memiliki latar belakang trauma pergolakan Perang PRRI 1958, ketika keberadaannya merupakan sebuah dilema karena dalam dirinya ada darah musuh dan ia pun tidak dikehendaki. Masalah perjuangan simbolisnya itu dianalisis dengan menggunakan konsep Pierre Bourdieu, yaitu habitus dan modal dalam arena sosial dengan kemelut trauma masa lalu. Data itu dianalisis dengan menggunakan konsep Bourdieu guna mengungkap sebab kontradiksi dan kadar perjuangan simbolis tokoh dan dikaitkan dalam teks sastra secara kontekstual dengan aspek sosial dan sejarahnya. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa upaya perjuangan Kalaya dapat dikatakan tidak berhasil karena kontradiksi sosial dan sejarah yang mempengaruhi ruang sosial yang tergambar dalam novel; kontradiksi sang protagonis terjadi ketika potensi keberhasilan perjuangannya, yaitu habitus dan modal, terutama modal sosial dan simbolisnya terhambat karena faktor-faktor masa lalu sejarah masyarakat itu dan dirinya sendiri. Akibatnya, keberadaannya ditolak oleh ibunya dan masyarakat di sana. Secara paralel, novel ini bersifat simbolik tentang trauma kekalahan PRRI 1959 bagi masyarakat Minang dalam Perang PRRI. Trauma akibat kekalahan dan kekejaman perang itu dapat meruntuhkan modal dan habitus seseorang dan masyarakat. Namun, dengan demikian konsep Bourdieu itu tidak pula berarti tidak cocok dengan novel ini. Kegagalan perjuangan itu terjadi karena dilema trauma perang yang menimbulkan kontradiksi.
