Terjebak di Transisi: Menguak Peran Dukungan Sosial Sebagai Penyangga Stres Karier Pada QLC Mahasiswa

Abstract

Mahasiswa tingkat akhir sering kali berada pada titik kritis transisi menuju kedewasaan profesional yang memicu kecemasan mendalam. Fenomena Quarter Life Crisis (QLC) muncul sebagai bentuk tekanan emosional yang signifikan, namun pemahaman mengenai karakteristik spesifik dan cara mahasiswa psikologi mengatasinya masih perlu dieksplorasi lebih mendalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi manifestasi QLC, menganalisis faktor pemicu baik secara internal maupun eksternal, serta memetakan strategi koping yang diterapkan oleh mahasiswa Program Studi Psikologi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam terhadap tiga orang mahasiswa tingkat akhir yang sedang menempuh tugas akhir (skripsi) untuk mendapatkan gambaran fenomenologis yang komprehensif. Temuan penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa QLC dicirikan oleh "krisis ganda", yakni ketakutan akut akan kegagalan akademik yang beriringan dengan kebingungan visi hidup pasca-kampus. Faktor penyebab utama melibatkan kerentanan internal akibat pola kelekatan keluarga yang kurang stabil, serta tekanan eksternal berupa perbandingan sosial dan fenomena Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). Mahasiswa secara dominan menggunakan strategi koping berupa refleksi diri untuk pencarian jati diri serta mobilisasi dukungan sosial. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa QLC merupakan fase transformatif bagi pengembangan diri mahasiswa. Dukungan sosial memegang peranan vital sebagai penyangga (buffer) stres karier yang mampu meningkatkan resiliensi individu. Implikasi praktis dari temuan ini menekankan pentingnya penyediaan program mentoring karier dan penguatan dukungan emosional untuk memitigasi dampak krisis pada dewasa awal. Abstract Final-year students are often at a critical transition point toward professional adulthood, which frequently triggers profound anxiety. The Quarter-Life Crisis (QLC) phenomenon emerges as a significant form of emotional pressure; however, an in-depth understanding of its specific characteristics and the coping mechanisms employed by psychology students remains limited. This study aims to identify the manifestations of QLC, analyze both internal and external triggering factors, and map the coping strategies implemented by students within the Psychology Study Program. This research adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with three final-year students currently completing their undergraduate theses to obtain a comprehensive phenomenological overview. The findings reveal that QLC is characterized by a "double crisis": acute academic fear regarding graduation coupled with a lack of vision for post-campus life. Primary triggers include internal vulnerabilities rooted in unstable family attachment patterns, as well as external pressures such as social comparison and the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) phenomenon. Students predominantly utilize coping strategies involving self-reflection for self-discovery and the mobilization of social support. This study confirms that QLC serves as a transformative phase for student self-development. Social support plays a vital role as a buffer against career stress, effectively enhancing individual resilience. The practical implications of these findings emphasize the importance of providing systematic career mentoring programs and strengthening emotional support to mitigate the impact of the crisis during early adulthood.
