Abstract

This study explores the integration of local cultural traditions into renewable energy learning to enhance students’ science process skills in Lubuklinggau City. Renewable energy learning is designed using Artificial Intelligence within the context of “Sedekah Bumi.” The problem is that students often face difficulties understanding renewable energy concepts such as energy conversion, efficiency, and sustainability within this cultural context. This study aims to develop a Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) for renewable energy materials based on students’ learning obstacles while simultaneously strengthening their science process skills. Forty students from SMA Negeri 2 Lubuklinggau participated in this study, which employed a Design Research methodology consisting of three stages: (1) Preparation for the Experiment, (2) Design Experiment, and (3) Retrospective Analysis. The learning design was implemented through three collaborative Lesson Study cycles involving researchers, physics teachers, and students. Learning tools, including lesson plans and two student worksheets (LKPD 1 Sharing Task and LKPD 2 Jumping Task), were developed and refined based on classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed qualitatively using a descriptive approach. The results show that the HLT in the renewable energy learning design within the Sedekah Bumi context can improve students’ science process skills. The use of Lesson Study enhances teacher engagement in reflective teaching and improves teacher quality. Integrating local wisdom enhances science process skills such as observation, experimentation, data interpretation, and prediction within the cultural context. This study contributes significantly to physics education, especially in designing learning rooted in local culture. Further research is recommended to identify difficulties faced by physics teachers in developing renewable energy modules to improve students’ understanding of the Nature of Science (NOS).
