Abstract

ABSTRACT Curriculum changes in Indonesia continue to be made in order to respond to the needs of society and the dynamics of the times. The Merdeka Curriculum emphasises freedom of learning, creativity, and the development of higher-order thinking skills. In the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), there is a need to shift learning from a memorisation approach to deep learning that is oriented towards conceptual understanding, critical analysis, and the application of religious values in real life. This study aims to analyse the objectives, processes, and outcomes of implementing a deep learning approach in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at SMAIT Anak Sholeh Mataram. Using a qualitative approach and case study design, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analysed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study indicate that deep learning is implemented through contextual material planning, the use of active methods such as problem-based learning, project-based learning, and reflective discussion, as well as evaluation based on student self-reflection. This implementation significantly improves students' critical thinking skills, particularly in identifying Islamic issues, analysing arguments in depth, evaluating differences of opinion among scholars, and formulating creative solutions in accordance with Islamic values. This study confirms that the deep learning approach is effective as a modern Islamic Education learning strategy and is relevant for implementation in the Merdeka Curriculum. ABSTRAK Perubahan kurikulum di Indonesia terus dilakukan untuk menjawab kebutuhan masyarakat dan dinamika zaman. Kurikulum Merdeka hadir dengan menekankan kebebasan belajar, kreativitas, dan pengembangan kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi. Dalam konteks Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI), muncul kebutuhan untuk menggeser pembelajaran dari pendekatan hafalan menuju pembelajaran mendalam (deep learning) yang berorientasi pada pemahaman konseptual, analisis kritis, dan penerapan nilai-nilai agama dalam kehidupan nyata. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis tujuan, proses, dan hasil implementasi pendekatan deep learning dalam pembelajaran PAI di   Anak Sholeh Mataram. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dan desain studi kasus, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, serta dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa deep learning diimplementasikan melalui perencanaan materi kontekstual, penggunaan metode aktif seperti problem based learning, project based learning, dan diskusi reflektif, serta evaluasi berbasis refleksi diri siswa. Implementasi ini secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa, terutama dalam mengidentifikasi persoalan keislaman, menganalisis dalil secara mendalam, mengevaluasi perbedaan pendapat ulama, dan merumuskan solusi kreatif sesuai nilai-nilai Islam. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pendekatan deep learning efektif sebagai strategi pembelajaran PAI modern dan relevan untuk diterapkan dalam Kurikulum Merdeka.
