This study aims to analyze the meaning of the toponymy of Danau Perintis from a geographical perspective and examine its relationship with regional identity and sustainable tourism development. The study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive geographical approach. Data collection techniques were conducted through field observations, interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The data were analyzed descriptively through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that Danau Perintis was originally known as Tumba Mayu, a name formed based on the physical geographical conditions of the area, namely swamps and rumbia vegetation. The change of the name to Danau Perintis is related to the history of the community’s struggle and the development of the area’s functions. The toponymy of Danau Perintis reflects the relationship between humans and the environment formed through geographical, historical, social, and cultural aspects of the local community. In addition to serving as a regional identity, the toponymy of Danau Perintis also has potential to support sustainable tourism development through the utilization of historical values, local culture, and environmental characteristics as tourist attractions. Therefore, the toponymy of Danau Perintis can become an important part of preserving local identity while supporting the development of culture- and environment-based tourism areas.
