This study examines the representation of social actors in Detik.com news coverage regarding the criticism voiced by the Student Executive Board of Gadjah Mada University (BEM KM UGM) toward the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program and President Prabowo Subianto’s speech at the United Nations. The study aims to identify the strategies of social actor representation employed by the media in constructing particular meanings and perspectives surrounding the reported event. This research applies a descriptive qualitative approach using Theo van Leeuwen’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework. The data consist of news texts published by Detik.com, The data were gathered through observation and note-taking methods and subsequently analyzed using the concepts of exclusion and inclusion. The findings reveal that Detik.com utilizes various exclusion and inclusion strategies to present, obscure, and emphasize specific social actors within the news discourse. These strategies indicate a tendency to provide greater visibility and narrative space to university students as the primary critics of government policies. The study implies that social actor representation in news media is not entirely neutral but is shaped by linguistic choices and discursive strategies that influence how social realities are constructed and interpreted by readers.
