Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women remains a health problem that increases the risk of pregnancy complications, low birth weight, and stunting. Low adherence to iron supplementation (IBT) is one of the main causes of the high incidence of anemia, influenced by a lack of knowledge and family support. This community service activity aims to improve knowledge and adherence to iron supplementation through the Anemia Awareness Pregnant Women's Movement (Gentasari) program with a family-based educational approach. The program was implemented at the Saboking-king Community Health Center in Palembang, involving 30 pregnant women and their family companions. The methods used included participatory education, the formation of a Drug Swallowing Monitor (PMO) from family members, the use of the Gentasari Iron Supplementation Calendar, and mentoring and monitoring for one month. Evaluation was carried out using pre- and post-tests of knowledge and measurement of iron supplementation compliance through a control calendar and pill count method. The results showed that the average knowledge score increased significantly from 62.40 ± 8.12 to 86.13 ± 6.45 (p < 0.001). The percentage of pregnant women with high compliance increased from 13.3% to 76.7%, while low compliance decreased from 60.0% to 6.6%. The Gentasari program effectively increased knowledge and compliance with iron supplement consumption through active family involvement and has the potential to become a community-based intervention model for preventing anemia in pregnant women.
