<![CDATA[Reading is an essential skill in English language learning, particularly for vocational high school students who are expected to develop adequate English proficiency to support their academic and future professional needs. However, many students still experience difficulties in reading English texts due to limited reading habits, lack of interest, and low self-confidence. This study aims to investigate the use of short stories in improving students’ English reading skills at Private Vocational High School and to examine the role of learning creativity and self-confidence in supporting their reading performance. Data were collected through individual reading tests to assess students’ ability to understand and read English short-story texts. The findings indicate that several students still experienced difficulties in reading English fluently, mainly due to limited reading practice and low interest in English. The results also show that learning creativity and self-confidence contribute to students’ reading performance. Students with higher learning creativity and stronger self-confidence tended to demonstrate better focus, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension when reading English texts. Therefore, the use of short stories can provide an engaging learning medium to support the development of students’ reading skills while encouraging creativity and self-confidence in the English learning process.]]>
