Abstract

Background:  People often used the code in their daily conversation, spoken or written language, formal or informal. When people do code switching, it can make them become bilingual.Purpose: The objective of this paper is to find out how many code switching are applied, types of code switching in dialog between the characters in Insecurity novel of Angelina Johnson included the reasons for using the code switching.Design and methods: The method used in this analysis is qualitative descriptive method with the library and internet research. This analysis focused on analyzing the types of code switching based on the theory of Poplack and reasons for using code switching based on Hoffman theory.Results: The results of analysis found the total in dialog that code switching occurs 141 data from chapter 1 to 19. Total 3 types of code switching, that most widely used is intra-sentential occurs 122 times, then inter-sentential 13 times, while tag switching occurs 6 times. And also found that only six reasons based on Hoffman theory by talking about particular topic found 47 times, quoting somebody else found 3 times, being empathic found 14 times, interjection found 6 times, repetition used for clarification found only once, while intention of clarifying found 14 times.

Abstract

This paper is meant to understand how Jo march, who is the female lead character, is portrayed and how the film reflects feminist values through the character of Jo march. The analysis in this text uses a feminist approach because the purpose of this writing is to find the feminism of the main character and how communication in the family affects all the decisions taken by the main character in this film. This analysis is based on the sources of Little Women movie by Greta Gerwig. The method of analysis used is a qualitative descriptive method. To find the feminism values of the Jo March character, there are three problem formulated in this paper. The first problem is knowing the type of feminism shown by the main character, Jo March. Second, how is the point of view of women shown in the Little Women movie. And last how does communication with family affect the feminism side of the main character..  Analysis showed that: (1) in the film little women, the main character featured two types of feminism, which is liberal feminism and Marxist feminism. (2) The point of view toward women, which women at that time were limited by the thought that they should marry in order to have a good life. (3) Finally, Family has a very important role to build a person's mindset.

Abstract

Abstrak_Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana cara memahami dan menangani keluhan pelanggan di Bank BTPN Indonesia. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Departemen Pelayanan Bank BTPN Indonesia. Data tersebut diambil melalui pengamatan langsung, wawancara dengan staf layanan pelanggan, data dari penelitian perpustakaan dan pelatihan kerja di Bank BTPN Indonesia Departemen Pelayanan. Kegiatan ini ada beberapa hal, yaitu: bagaimana memahami dan menangani keluhan pelanggan di PT Danafix Online Indonesia. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) staf layanan pelanggan dapat memahami keluhan pelanggan dengan respon cepat melalui ekspresi pelanggan, (2) staf layanan pelanggan lebih mudah menangani keluhan pelanggan dengan menggunakan ekspresi. Ekspresi Bahasa Inggris dapat digunakan untuk memahami pelanggan dalam bidang pelayanan. Menggunakan English Expression terhadap lawan bicara untuk memahami apa yang disampaikan atau yang dipermasalahkan maka akan mudah dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut.

Abstract

Listening is one of the skills in teaching English. Listening is not passive ability but active communication. Listening aims to understand and respond to what we hear. When we hear, we always give response either through direct spoken language or body language. To get maximum results, teachers must be able to use media that can facilitate and motivate students in the learning process of hearing. In this case, the media that is currently being used is podcast audio. Podcasts come from the words "iPod" and "broadcast" which produce audio and video files episodically that can be downloaded and listened to by personal computers, tablets, smart phones, or other audio/video device and listeners can listen and learn all the interesting material they need. The purpose of this study is to introduce the use of audio podcasts as a media portable for listening learning, in addition to this research aims to apply audio podcast media in the process of teaching English the 8th students at SMP 181 Jakarta. The teaching process through; interviews, observations, literary studies, and the internet. Additionally, to collect results from significant differences before and after using audio podcasts, the authors used pre-tests and post-tests during observation. The study's findings include: 1) the advantage of teaching Listen through audio podcasts is that authors find that podcasts can help students feel comfortable while they listen to questions. Students can repeat listening to missed or unheard sentences. 2) Through audio podcasts make it easy for teachers to teach students online without offline process, 3) through audio podcasts are very effective in improving students' ability in listening skills for the 8th students at SMP 181 Jakarta. Through the Audio Podcast, the author makes students enjoy and happy to listen. Because, audio podcasts make students easy to be applied

Abstract

Abstract: Writing is one of skills in language teaching. There are some kinds of writing genres, one of them is Recount Text. Writing a recount text is helping in memorising about an events or experiences in a kind of sequences story by follow the generic structure of recount text, orientations, events, and reorientation. To make the content and purpose of writing recount texts is effectively fulfilled, the students are provided some guidelines and procedures. However, the way teacher provides the guidelines and procedures does not always get the success in teaching and learning writing. The writer used descriptive qualitative method because  the  data  analysis  is presented  descriptively. This study aims to apply Brainstorming techniques in teaching Recount Text English in 8th grade students at MTs.Al-Husna Depok. The teaching process through; interviews, observation, literature study, and the internet. Moreover,  in order to collect the result of the significant differences before and after of using Brainstorming Technique, the writer uses pre-test and post-test during the observation. The research findings include: 1)The students arranged the sentences into a good paragraph by answering the question who, what, when, where, why, and how. At last, for the second trying of using brainstorming, the students did the practice individually. 2)The advantages of teaching recount text through brainstorming are that the writer found that brainstroming could help the students feel at ease while they are writing. The students can manage their time for writing more efficiently. They could produce unpredictable words for their writing since brainstorming helps them generate ideas more effectively and release their anxiety that cause the writer’s block. 3) Using brainstorming technique is very effective in improving the students’ ability in writing recount text for the 8th grade students at MTs. Al-Husna Depok. By using brainstorming, the writer made the students enjoy writing. It because brainstorming is not a difficult technique to be applied. Keyword: Teaching, Speaking, Information Gap Technique

Abstract

Nowadays, watching a movie has become a daily activity for some people, even become a hobby. Sometimes humans just watch and forget some important things we can take from the movie. One of them is a moral value that we can set as an example to deal with various problems of life. That is the purpose of this paper. The writer wants to convey the moral values that can be taken from the film to the readers or viewers of the movie. In analyzing this paper, The writer uses descriptive qualitative method and the techniques by descriptive observation (collecting). So here, The Writer will examine the bumblebee film with data in the form of words and images from the film. Then the procedure for collecting data using observation techniques (field notes). Collecting technique the data needed and the theory is through internet research. The result of this research is first, types of moral values in Bumblebee that appear in the movie and the second is which types of moral value most appear in the movie. There are eight types of moral values in this movie. They are patriotism, work hard, friendly or communicative, creative, care to social, curious, independent, and appreciate achievement

Abstract

Abstract: Speaking is an important skill in learning English. However, the teacher still need an appropriate technique to teach speaking. So that, the writer used Information Gap technique in  learning English speaking. This study aims to apply Information-Gap techniques in teaching speaking English in 8th grade students at MTs.Al-Husna Depok. In this study, the writer uses A Classroom Action Research (CAR). The writer analyzes and collects data during the teaching process through; interviews, observation, literature study, and the internet. Moreover,  in order to collect the result of the significant differences before and after of using Information Gap, the writer uses pre-test and post-test during the observation. The research findings include: 1) Information Gap is an interesting technique in learning speaking, so that the students can enjoy the learning process. 2) With the Information Gap technique can make students more active in communication, and increase the courage and confidence of students. 3) In addition, by applying this technique students do not feel bored, because there are many different and interesting activities in Information Gap technique. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to: determine the interactive effect of grammar mastery and motivation trait towards descriptive English writing skill. Sample size of 80 students, and the sampling technique used is simple random sampling. Research instruments used were the test results of motivation trait and descriptive English writing skill scoring that have been tested regression coefficient value of 0,008 and 1,738. The used test is multiple regression analysis. The results showed: 1) There are significant interactive effects of grammar mastery and motivation trait towards descriptive English writing skill as Fobserved = 29,981 > Ftable 2,72 at the 5% significance level. 2) There is a significant effect of grammar mastery towards descriptive English writing skill, as tobserved = 4,000 > ttable = 1,684 at the 5% significance level. 2) There is a significant effect of motivation trait towards descriptive English writing skill as tobserved = 7,703 > ttable = 1,671 at the 5% significance level. The results contribute most to the increasing of descriptive English writing skill by grammar mastering and increasing the motivation. Keywords: Grammar Mastery, Motivation, Descriptive Writing Skill

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze slang words in Crank II movie. The method used descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected through watching the full movie, library and internet research. The first analysis of the research is about characteristics of slang that found in the movie, which is divided into: Creative, Vulgar, and Short Lived. Then the second analysis is about functions of slang in the movie and the third or the last is about expressed of slang in the movie, which include: Expressed Love, Disappointed, Shock, and Anger. The results of this research indicated that: (1) It would get and gain the knowledge about slang language through this research paper. (2) The writer suggests that studying about slang language is very interesting, the writer hopes by studying slang language will help the reader to increase new vocabulary about slang. It also hopes that the readers can understand the sociolinguistic of slang that may appear in the learning process (3) the writer hopes that this paper will be useful for all people who want to do research regarding slang.
