Mimika Regency is experiencing rapid economic growth and urbanization, which has put significant pressure on the domestic sanitation system. The lack of integrated downstream management, combined with biophysical conditions such as the dominance of aerated glei soils, extreme rainfall, and shallow groundwater levels, increases the risk of aquifer contamination and serious environmental pollution. This study aims to untangle the domestic wastewater service chain and identify the resulting environmental risks as a basis for developing a sustainable sanitation strategy. The study uses a descriptive-evaluative approach that integrates a service chain analysis (Shit Flow Assessment), spatial analysis of at-risk areas, and environmental hydrogeological studies based on data from the EHRA Study, the District Sanitation Strategy (SSK), and the geological conditions of the region. The results show that the sanitation system does not meet SDGs standards; 43.99% of the population still defecates in the open, 38% of septic tanks are unsafe, and downstream management (transportation/treatment) reaches 0% due to the non-operational Iwaka Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPLT). These conditions pose a high risk of pathogen contamination in community water sources, especially in the Mimika Baru, Wania, and Iwaka Districts. Recommended strategies include accelerating IPTL operations, strengthening regulations, institutions, and technological interventions.
