Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between digital literacy, critical civic awareness, and civic engagement among Generation Z students in Makassar City. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at SMAN 10 Makassar, SMK TELKOM Makassar, and MAN 2 Makassar. Informants were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of students who actively use social media and teachers of Pancasila Education/Civic Education as supporting informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies, and were analyzed using interactive and thematic analysis, with data validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that students possess the ability to access digital media, but their abilities to evaluate and verify information vary. Critical digital literacy helps students understand public issues, consider diverse perspectives, and develop responsible attitudes. Critical civic awareness encourages engagement through digital activities, organizations, social activities, and community involvement. However, students' civic engagement faces challenges, including social media trends, concerns about negative judgments, limited confidence in expressing opinions, and insufficient understanding of public issues. These findings highlight the importance of integrating critical digital literacy, civic awareness, dialogical skills, and meaningful participation experiences to develop critical, ethical, and responsible young citizens
