This study aims to determine: 1) the level of KPS of VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Sungguminasa taught using POE learning model in the experimental class and conventional learning model in the control class. 2) the improvement of KPS of VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Sungguminasa after applying POE learning model in experimental class and conventional learning model in control class. 3) the effect of POE learning model on the KPS of VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Sungguminasa. The population of this research is all students of grade VIII of SMPN 2 Sungguminasa in the academic year 2023/2024 consisting of 11 classes totalling 355 students. The sample was selected by purposive sampling and obtained 2 classes, namely Class VIII.6 with 29 people as the experimental class and Class VIII.7 with 28 people as the control class. The research instrument was 25 items of multiple choice questions on science process skills. Data were analysed with descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The analysis results showed that: 1) the level of KPS of VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Sungguminasa taught using the POE (Predict, Observe, Explain) learning model is included in the high category with an average score of 16.80 and the control class taught using the conventional learning model is included in the medium category with an average score of 13.53. 2) Improvement of KPS of VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Sung guminasa after applying the POE learning model was in the medium category with an average N-Gain score of 0.42. And in the control class after applying the conventional learning model is in the medium category with an average N-Gain score of 0.33. 3) There is an effect of POE (Predict, Observe, Explain) learning model on the KPS of VIII grade students of SMPN 2 Sungguminasa.
