The increasing volume of inadequately managed organic waste has become a critical environmental issue, negatively affecting soil quality and agricultural sustainability. The application of biological agents in composting offers a promising strategy to address this challenge. This community service activity aimed to implement the use of Trichoderma sp. in the pre-composting process and apply the resulting compost as a kokedama planting medium to support environmental education. The program was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Malang in February 2026, involving 60 tenth- and eleventh-grade students participating in the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (P5) under the theme of Sustainable Lifestyle. Activities included lectures on organic waste management and the role of Trichoderma sp., followed by hands-on practice in fungal propagation, pre-composting, and kokedama preparation using compost enriched with biological agents. Participants’ understanding was evaluated using pre- and post-tests and analyzed with a paired-sample t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge, with scores increasing from 55% to 86% for Trichoderma sp., 67% to 85% for composting, and 67% to 88% for kokedama. These findings demonstrate that integrating biological agents into pre-composting combined with practice-based learning effectively enhances students’ knowledge and skills. The use of Trichoderma sp. in kokedama production has strong potential as an innovative and sustainable environmental education medium .
