This study aimed to: (1) determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the creativity of fifth-grade students in learning about types of waste at SDN Pakis V/372 Surabaya; and (2) describe the use of plastic waste as a learning context in Science and Social Studies (IPAS) at the school. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample consisted of 72 fifth-grade students, comprising 36 students in Class VB as the experimental group and 36 students in Class VC as the control group. Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using an independent-samples t-test. The hypothesis testing results showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating that H? was rejected and H? was accepted. The results demonstrate a significant effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on fifth-grade students’ creativity in learning about types of waste at SDN Pakis V/372 Surabaya. These findings indicate that PBL can provide a meaningful learning approach for developing students’ creativity while utilizing plastic waste as a contextual learning resource in IPAS.
