Abstract

Community service activities have been carried out in Pagatan Besar Village, Takisung District, Tanah Laut Regency with the theme of implementing a solar cell-based water filtration system. The solar cell system is able to operate effectively for seven hours a day relying solely on solar energy. The water filtration system is also capable of producing a clean water discharge of around 10 litres per minute. The test results show that the solar cell has good performance in converting solar energy into electricity sufficient to run a water pump, RO and UV lamp independently for a day and a night. The results of testing the quality of water suitable for consumption after filtration obtained through physical and chemical tests are a decrease in temperature from 24.8 °C to 24.4 °C; the Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) value decreased from 263 mg/L to 78 mg/L; the turbidity value decreased from 0.62 NTU to 0.11 NTU; the color decreased from 17 TCU to ˂ 5 TCU; and the pH value decreased from 7.80 to 7.46. Using a UV lamp for one hour is expected to reduce the number of E. coli bacteria by 29 per 100 ml, and using reverse osmosis (RO) can kill germs by up to 99%. This supports community independence in providing clean water without relying on PLN electricity, which has an impact on reducing long-term operational costs. Using solar cells to generate electricity is an environmentally friendly solution because it utilizes renewable energy and does not produce carbon emissions.
