This research aims to determine differences in students understanding of the concept of flat shapes before and after participating in jigsaw type cooperative learning assisted by flat shape props made from styrofoam. The method used is experiment with pre-experimental in the form of one-group pretest-posttest. The population was class VII students at SMP Negeri 10 Pontianak, while the sample was 30 students of VII F. The data collection technique is measurement technique while the tool is a test. The average student pretest score was only 26.4, while the average posttest score reached 93.0. Based on the results of hypothesis testing using Paired Samples t-Test, the tcount was -34.709 and the ttable was 2.045. Because -ttable > tcount, H0 is rejected, which means there is difference between students' understanding of the concept of flat shapes before and after participating in jigsaw type cooperative learning with the help of flat shape props made from styrofoam. Thus, jigsaw type cooperative learning with the help of flat shape props made from styrofoam has an effect on students' understanding of the concept of flat shapes. So, this method can be an alternative in learning mathematics, especially in flat shapes concept.
