This classroom action research (CAR) aimed to improve students’ English vocabulary mastery and classroom participation through the use of the animated movie Inside Out 2 among tenth-grade students of MAN 1 Surakarta in the 2025/2026 academic year. The study was conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of two meetings and involving 34 students. Data were collected through vocabulary tests (pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2), classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using the mean score formula, while qualitative data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that students’ average vocabulary scores increased from 68.47 in the pre-test to 86.47 in post-test 1 and 93.94 in post-test 2. The percentage of students achieving the minimum mastery criterion also increased from 47.1% to 91.1%. Furthermore, students demonstrated greater enthusiasm, confidence, and engagement during the learning process. Therefore, the animated movie Inside Out 2 is an effective audio-visual medium for improving English vocabulary mastery.
