Abstract

Collaboration becomes trend in scientific publication for last decade. Many previous studies showed that collaboration had impact on quality of publication in terms of citation impact. This study aimed to investigate the influence of different pattern of collaboration on the citation impact of publications on biodiversity research from Indonesian researcher. A one thousand six hundred and ninty nine (1,699) articles were published by researchers affiliated with institution located in Indonesia from 1990-2012 based on Scopus database. Different pattern of collaboration were investigated in different level. Based on the result, only 4.4% of those publications were single author publications, 11.4% of those were intra-institution publications, and 17.4% of those were domestic collaboration. Using linear regression analysis, the result of the study showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the number of authors and the number of citations in international publication on biodiversity research from Indonesian researcher. In addition, publications with a higher number of institutions have received higher number of citations. Publication with a higher number of foreign collaborating countries also received more citations.

Abstract

Research on gall (including field and laboratory observations and field collecting) have been conducted in the Mounts Gede Pangrano (MGPNP) and Halimun Salak National Parks (MHSNP). This research focused on gall shapes, host plant species, and parts of the host plants infected by galls. The result showed that there were 169 gall numbers in MGNP and 127 numbers in MHSNP have been collected. Distribution of plant species infected by the galls were rather same in the both conservation areas. In MHSNP seven families mostly infected by galls: Araceae, 4 species of 5 gall numbers collection in the family (=4/5), Elaeocarpaceae (5/5), Euphorbiaceae (7/9), Lauraceae (8/11), Moraceae (6/7), Melastomataceae (4/4) and Rubiaceae (9/12). In MGPNP the composition is only fairly different: Araliaceae (4/6),Euphorbiaceae (8/13), Lauraceae (9/12), Melastomataceae (5/6), Moraceae (13/22), Myrtaceae (9/11) and Rubiaceae (6/13). At least 23 gall shapes were found in both locations. The most common shape of galls found in MGNP was irregular, while in MHSNP was globular.Galls were mostly (90%) collected from leaf including peduncles and leaf venations. The other parts included twigs, branches, stems, flowers, and fruits. The most common insect found investing galls (i.e. insect gallers) was the midges (54.4%) followed by mites (18.5%), psyllids (11.1%), thrips (6.3%), coccids (1.9%), and aleurodes (1.9%).

Abstract

There are 525 native palm species to Indonesia.Chromosome numbers of 61 Indonesian palm species have been reported, unfortunately, not all species were presented by their karyotype. Re-observation of palm chromosomes is needed, because mis identification of particular species and uncorrect chromosome counts might be happen in the past. Chromosome characteristics of some families, such as Poaceae and Onagraceae were proved useful for classification. On palms, almost all species within similar genera were known had similar chromosome numbers and different in chromosome forms and sizes.Trends to employ chromosome characteristics for palm classification is possible.Since, chromosome information on palm is limited, chromosome research has great challenge to do in the future.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe rich of Indonesian biodiversity becomes an attraction for local and foreign researchers to conduct research in this country. One of scientific productivity indicators that mostly used is number of publication in scientific journal. The previous studies had never analyzed scientific productivity of Indonesian biodiversity researchers, both institutionally and individually. This paper analyzes 2,432 articles concerning Indonesian biodiversity research affiliated with institution from Indonesia (published in 1990-2015) from Scopus database, including 8,544 authors from 1,638 institutions. Data pre-processing resulted publication year, number of author, and author?s institution location. Then, they were analyzed using scientometrics analysis. Scientometrics analysis is a quantitative method related to measurement of the science communication. The result shows that internation-al collaborations produced most of scientific publications on Indonesian biodiversity. The number of scientific publication on Indonesian biodiversity was significantly increase and showed exponential growth trend. Indo-nesian author mostly wrote articles from Animalia kingdom. Multi and mega authors wrote the most of scien-tific publications on Indonesian biodiversity. Keywords : Indonesia, biodiversity, scientometrics, productivity, scientific publication, Scopus

Abstract

ABSTRACTBentul taro (Colocasia esculenta) is one of taro cultivar which has high productivity. Genetic improvement has been done by obtaining tetraploid taro. Drought tolerant cultivars can be achieved by addition of poly ethylene glycol (PEG) in vitro. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the treatment of PEG concentrations on in vitro growth of tetraploid shoots and to propagate shoots after PEG treatment. The explants used were diploid taro shoots, tetraploid clones 2.1.2 and 2.4.2. Shoots were planted in MS media without PEG and with PEG of 5, 10 and 15%. The growth parameters observed were petiole length, number of leaves, and number of roots every week for 6 weeks. Proline content and LC50 values were analyzed at 6 weeks after planting. Propagation of shoots after PEG treatment was carried out on MS media containing 2 mg / L BAP, 1 mg / L thiamine, and 2 mg / L adenine. Each treatment consisted of 15 shoots as replicates. The growth parameters observed were petiole length, number of leaves, and number of shoots every week for 6 weeks. The results showed that Bentul taro clones significantly affected the concentration of PEG on growth parameters. LC50 value of diploid clone was 12.16%, clone 2.1.2 was 13.54%, and clone 2.4.2 was 12.74%. The highest proline content was found at Bentul tetraploid clone 2.1.2. After PEG treatment, growth was significantly affected by PEG concentrations. All Bentul taro clones after PEG treatment produced multiple shoots.  Keywords: Taro (Colocasia esculenta), in vitro selection, diploid, tetraploid, proline, LC50, propagation
