Orientasi Baru adalah Jurnal ilmiah yang bertujuan menyampaikan pemikiran-pemikiran kritis yang dapat memberi inspirasi dan arah baru bagi kehidupan Gereja dan masyarakat Indonesia di tengah kemajemukan budaya dan agama dalam diskusi bidang filsafat, teologi ataupun ilmu-ilmu terkait dalam bentuk karya tulis, laporan penelitian dan resensi buku. Jurnal ini diterbitkan oleh Pusat Penelitian Teologi Kontekstual, Fakultas Teologi Universitas Sanata Dharma. Jurnal terbit 2 kali dalam setahun (April dan Oktober).

Salah satu reaksi terhadap globalisasi adalah menguatnya identitas-identitaslokal yang beranak pinak menjadi gerakan separatisme, fanatisme agama, dangerakan primordialisme. Konflik-konflik yang bermunculan di penghujung abad20 ditandai dengan konflik identitas dan kepentingan. Karena itu perhatiandan studi tentang identitas menjadi begitu penting untuk kepentingan prosesperdamaian. Sumbangan dari dunia akademis ini sangat dinantikan oleh parapeace maker mengingat makin massif dan banyaknya konflik antar negara,golongan, maupun agama yang terjadi. Dalam proses perdamaian di IrlandiaUtara terlihat bagaimana peran identitas itu begitu kental. Tulisan ini mencobamembedah problem perdamaian di Irlandia Utara itu dari kacamata identitytheory. Dengan pemahaman yang lebih baik atas masing-masing kubu yangbertikai, tulisan ini memberikan rekomendasi bahwa proses perdamaian yangselama ini telah ditempuh perlu dirombak ulang. What is the relation between ethics, happiness and â€Godâ€? Immanuel Kant hasa web of arguments explaining their intertwined relations in his well knownworks. This body of arguments laid an intellectual bridge between philosophyand theology. God is understood as 1) a moral unit who ensures the absoluteautonomy of human conscience, as well as 2) guarantee the foundation ofmorality or the ultimate meaning of morality. Yet, this kind of â€God†isnamed by Kant as â€postulateâ€, meaning that the existence is to be acceptedunconditionally or needless to prove it otherwise. In Fakta der Vernunft, KpV,A 289, Kant named it as â€the fact of reasonâ€. This means that for humanbeings, ethics, happiness and God are to be accepted beyond any doubt (asin the case of a fact). On the other hand, they should not be considered asan empirical constancy, as to be able to be finger-pointed, however as a resultof a conclusion of a work of human practical reason along with his or hermoral effort.

Psychology has been gaining a good reputation in science and society. Ithas contributed positively to the human life and progress. But as a growingscience, psychology has both external and internal problems. One of them isreflected in the dispute on the quantitative and qualitative paradigm used byits scientists. What psychology should do and which attitudes its scientistsshould have? It is important that its scientist starts by acknowledging his orher identity. Then, the next important thing is to rethink about the natureof psychology itself. How does psychology come into existence? How hasit been growing? What is its uniqueness? Psychologists themselves have toconsider seriously the scientific nature of their knowledge as well as theirscientific attitudes. Philosophy of science will help to clarify and explain thedisputed problem.

Does Christian ethics propose an original moral which is different from other ethics? The golden rule could be the starting point of the search for the uniqueness of the christian ethics. â€Treat others as you would like them to treat you. So treat others as a goal and not as a meansâ€. This golden rule still supposes a reciprocal relationship. So it must be viewed in a new perspective which is of generosity. So the categorical imperative must be completed by â€love your enemies and do good, and lend without any hope of return†(Luke 6:35). This completion characterizes the logic of generosity which can be claimed is the uniqueness of christian ethics because it transcends the mere logic of eciprocity of the golden rule. The logic of generosity purifies the christian ethics rom all kinds of interests and expectations. This radicality of following Jesus hrist answers the perplexity of Derrida putting into question of the existence of a sincere gift and pardon. Derrida’s deconstruction confirms mediately the niqueness of christian ethics. Christianism places ethics in a concrete community with all its organizations, traditions, rites, institutions, theologies and the individuals of its members.

Tema perjalanan mewarnai sebagian besar tulisan Michel Tournier. Tourniermerupakan salah seorang pengarang dan filsuf Perancis yang lahir pada tahun1924. Novelnya La Goutte d’Or yang dipublikasi pada tahun 1986 mengisahkanperjalanan Idriss dari kampung halamannya Afrika menuju Eropa. Perjalananjuga berarti sebuah proses berinteraksi dengan bangsa, negara, situasi, tempat,orang-orang dan adat-istiadat yang serba asing. Pada saat yang sama, orangyang melakukan perjalanan juga berhadapan dengan gambaran-gambaran,praduga dan prasangka yang dibangun oleh orang lain terhadap dirinyasebagai pendatang. Foto-foto, gambar, dan film-film Barat yang berhubungandengan perjalanan, merupakan media yang biasanya menampilkan hal-halyang dianggap luar biasa dan aneh. Novel Michel Tournier mengritik halitu. Kalung berbentuk tetesan, sebagai “bulla aurea†simbol kebebasan dalambudaya Arab orientalis yang dikenakan oleh Idriss, merupakan simbol budayaTimur yang sangat berbeda dengan fotografi budaya Barat. Kalung tersebutmenjadi simbol yang memuat makna budaya tulis dan literature Timur. Noveltersebut menampilkan makna kontras antara budaya Timur dan Barat. Penulismengidentifikasikan budaya Barat sebagai budaya “penampakan“, sedangkanBudaya Timur digambarkan sebagai budaya “keberadaan“. Pastoral ministry is centered around an activity of sharing Gospel values. Itsmain context is faith experience of the people of God. How can these valuesbe truly integrated into one’s life? Life of a person is marked by a gradualtransformation. One’s pre-understandings are mainly formed through daily lifepractices. Unavoidably these pre-understandings are assumed in understandingthe Gospel. Hermeneutics unfold a process of understanding. However, thisdoes not mean that a reader would not be able to involve personally andtotally in an effort of living the Gospel. In its turn his or her experiencewill be re-interpreted and transformed by the Gospel. While doing pastoralministry, one and a community will deeply experience the truth of the Gospel.In some ways, they reflect the truth of the Gospel that are peace and justice.The core of pastoral ministry is to foster the living community in promotingthe values of the Gospel. This community may eventually become a peacefuland prophetic movement in the world.
