Abstract

Since the beginning, medical ethics always walks together with medical practices. For centuries, Hippocratic oath is the guard of the medical practices. But now medical science is growing rapidly so it can be followed by medical ethics. Bioethics is born from this concern. It wants to connect ethics and medical practices and to give ethics orientation for medical services. Bioethics does not talk just about medical practices but about all human life in the front of medical services. This essay will show us the connection between ethics and medical services. Ethics is needed to help us how to use knowledge in medical science. One of the ethics aims is respect for human being. In particular, this essay will speak about: relation between ethics and biomedic, the needs of ethics in the biomedic practices and ethics orientation in medical services.

Abstract

Masalah keterlibatan dan tanggungjawab perempuan dalam hidup dan tugasperutusan Gereja merupakan topik diskusi teologis yang senantiasa aktualdibicarakan. Tulisan ini mau menguraikan pandangan resmi Gereja terhadapmartabat dan panggilan perempuan dalam hidup Gereja menurut perspektifSurat Apostolik Paus Yohanes Paulus II Mulieris Dignitatem. Dasar refleksimartabat dan panggilan perempuan adalah misteri perempuan Maria, BundaKristus. Ada dua dimensi dalam panggilan perempuan, yakni keibuan dankemurnian yang menyatu dengan cara yang istimewa. Keibuan merupakanpelestari anugerah dan nilai-nilai kemanusiaan. Kemurnian berarti pemberiandiri secara utuh kepada Tuhan dalam memperjuangkan nilai-nilai kemanusiaandan keselamatan. Kedua dimensi ini saling melengkapi. Pada pribadi Mariakedua dimensi panggilan seorang perempuan itu melekat erat dan dihidupisecara dinamis dan setia.

Abstract

Salvation is the prime goal of human life. Mitoni in Javanese culture is a tradition to seek for a help for mother and her child in her 7th month pregnancy to give birth safely. Catholic Church proclaims salvation for all people also through some rites. Naturally those rites offered by the Catholic Church shall have relevance to people rooted in their culture. It is important that there is an harmonious encounter between culture and those rites as well as a liturgy that reflects mutual understanding and complementarity between Christian faith and culture, especially through inculturation. That encounter seeks to find a new meaning of life enlightened by faith. In the tradition of Mitoni this shall occur through its ritual of siraman and liturgy that accompanies. New meaning points to an experience of salvation in different form and content rooted in a culture. How far an inculturation could help facilitate?

Abstract

A horrifying story of suicide is found in 2Macc 14:37-46. Surprisingly, the act isnot condemned; it is even highly praised. Can it be assumed then that the Bibleapproves suicide acts? To answer that question, we need to study the passagecarefully and compare it to other suicide stories that can be found in the OldTestament and Deuterocanonical books. Since the passage is considered as a storyof martyrdom, we need to consider also the Bible and Jewish traditions point ofview on martyrdom. There are many varying points of view that demand cautionwhen drawing conclusions on this controversial issue, by weighing in the contextof the story, political forces that influence the writing of the story, moral aspectsand avoiding literal interpretation of the Bible.

Abstract

People in general and Asian people in particular think that Christianity has close relation with western colonialism. This opinion is based on their historical experience. In middle ages, in fact, Christianity had arrived in Asia together with colonialism and Christianity was also the only belief of coloniser. The experience of colonization has hurt Asian people heart so deeply that it cant be forgotten. Up to now, this memoria passionis always rise hatred and vengeance not only to western nations but also to Christianity. In this context, Mother Teresa has chosen and lived an appropriate dialogue to do her mission of charity in India. It is dialogue of life, the dialogue that flow out from the deep faith and love of Jesus Christ into human life.

Abstract

Menyangkut plausibilitas pewartaan, karangan ini mengevaluasi buku Iman Katolik, Buku Informasi dan Referensi, yang pada tahun 1996 diluncurkan oleh Konferensi Waligereja Indonesia, antara lain dan terutama sebagai bantuan untuk katekese. Maka, karangan ini membahas maksud katekese, khususnya di Indonesia, dan lebih khusus lagi katekese untuk kaum muda. Adalah tugas dan tantangan katekese kaum muda untuk membina watak, supaya dikembangkan kesanggupan untuk memikul beban tanggung jawab dan keleluasaan untuk membina.solidaritas. Katekese dan seluruh pewartaan kristiani, sebagaimana terlihat pada pewartaan Yesus maupun pewartaan,Gereja perdana mengenai Yesus Kristus, dapat menyambung pada tantangan itu. Untuk itu, buku Iman Katolik menyediakan bahan pengetahuan iman luas (dari Kitab Suci, Tradisi, dan Ajaran Gereja) dan dengan metode penalaran yang induktif-empiris merangsang penghayatan iman. Perubahan situasi sejak tahun terbitan mengingatkan: para pewarta mesti mahir untuk mengantar dan menerjemahkan warta kristiani ke dalam tanggung jawab hidup pribadi dari tantangan sosial.
