Abstract

Terror movements are motivated by psychological, economic, cultural, politics and religious problems. This is a complex problem. But, it becomes more sensitive when religious motivation is involved in it. Nevertheless, terrorism is a human problem that urges all people and the institutions of the state and religions to discover solutions. As in Indonesia, all people are both citizens and members of religions, it is important to realize and get a concrete way against terrorism. What then is the role of religions and the state to overcome the problem of terorrism? How do religions and the state actualize their role against terrorism? Overcoming the problem of terrorism is the first step for developing a peaceful social life. The following step is to promote humanity. However, the state and religions have the same responsibility in educating all people to live universal values such as fraternity, peace, justice, and reciprocal respect and help as way of life.

Abstract

An integral skill-building is a real challenge within the world of education. To meet the challenge, a student-based methodology of learning or a project-based Learning needs to be developed. This methodology will greatly benefit each student while involving each of them in building what is called human knowledge. Within this regard, the development of the so-called soft-skills is expected to happen excellently. A Project-based Learning is applicable even for the program of english as the second language. With this approach, each student is expected to be able to experience the development of his or her intellectual ability, to learn to work in a team, to solve problems in dialogue, as well as learning to live with others.

Abstract

Suatu norma moral mesti plausibel agar dapat menjadi keyakinan bersama dalam masyarakat moral dan agar nyata-nyata menantang masing-masing anggota untuk memperjuangkan nilai-nilai yang dilindunginya. Kalau orang bertanya, manakah pandangan moral Gereja Katolik mengenai rekayasa genetis, diharapkan lebih dari hanya sekadar informasi. Keyakinan moral mesti dikemukakan sehingga menjadi plausibel.Karangan ini telah dibawa dalam Seminar Nasional mengenai rekayasa ganetis yang diadakan di Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, pada bulan Mei 2001. Dalam Orientasi Baru, bahan seminar tersebut merupakan kasus yang memperlihatkan cara penalaran moral dalam Gereja dan teologi moral Katolik. Untuk itu, karangan (1) menyebut sumber moralitas (Kitab Suci, ajaran [magisteium] Gereja, dan penalaran moral); (2) menjelaskan asas-asas "akibat ganda" dan "perbandingan nilai" yang dalam penalaran moral Katolik mendasarkan perumusan norma; (3) mengangkat "demokrasi, keadilan dan kedamaian" sebagai nilai dasar bagi moral sosial dan moral ekologi. Atas dasar asas-asas tersebut, (4) ditarik kesimpulan mengenai rekayasa genetis pada tanaman, binatang, dan manusia. Apakah langkah-langkah penalaran klasik tersebut meniamin plausibilitas moral, kalau-seperti dalam kasus rekayasa genetis-tak mungkin kita memperhitungkan akibat tindakan yang tidak mungkin dibatalkan lagi?

Abstract

John Paul II is well-known as an enduring voice of peace for the world. What is the meaning of peace according to John Paul II? The focus of this research is to find the thought of John Paul II on peace. It employs a reflective method for analyzing the massages of John Paul II for the celebration of the world day of peace from 2002 to 2005. He expressed that the pillars of peace are justice, freedom, forgiveness, love, solidarity and common good. Peace should be born in the heart of each person. Peace shall grow in a coexistence of life of mutual respect. Respect on human rights and dignity is a fundamental moral law for developing peace in the world. Responsibility to develop a peaceful world in the context of continuous conflicts and wars in our world belongs to each person and all institutions. Each person as well as community are called to work for common good that is a social face of peace.
